Going to Detroit & Toronto **Still need some opinion**

Hi,

I'm planning going to Detroit and Toronto in Spring Break.
What places I should visit during my vacation?
Also, can I rent car in Detroit and bring to Toronto?

Thanks.

Any good museum in Detroit I should go?
During the journey Detroit - Toronto, where I should stop?

In Detroit you can hit the 3 casinos and make sure you visit Hockeytown cafe. Second City is also cool and is attached to Hockeytown. You can check out the Windsor casino also. Other places are Greektown, Joe Louis for a Wings game, and Royal Oak is a kick-ass town.

Second City is very funny!

Take some advice, do not try to take any shortcuts into downtown late at night. Stick to the major freeways. Detroit is not a safe town 🙂

You might want to check out the world's largest tire on I94 😉

when you are in detroit.... try not to pop the rental car's tires.... oh yeah the roads are crap... well at least they were when i was there last summer

that iwll never change. I got beached a few weeks ago from a sinkhole type of deal. The entire Lane had dropped about 4 inches and i didnt swerve enough to avoid it with my right front. It defalted in about 20-30 seconds.

There's tons to do in toronto. It's a typical big city, but it seems like there's less crime. Check out broadway shows, chinatown or shop on young st or the Eaton Centre.

As for renting cars in the states and taking them to Canada, you can do it, but you'll probably have to pay extra on the car for insurance. If you rent it on a credit card, you may want to call your CC company and see how their coverage area works. When I've gone over in a rental, though, I never bothered to do any of this. I just told the rental car place I was staying in New York State so I wouldnt have to pay extra.

Just make sure you have ID when you go over the border. You *may* want to dig up a copy of your birth certificate. I've never been asked for mine, but I know some people who have.

Just a tip: When you pull up to the customs officer - put your car in park. Some people just use their brakes and they *hate* that. One of my friend's fathers works at the border patrol and he'll make people go into the office if they do that some times.

I'm going to have to second heading up to Royal Oak for a night. Great town for partying. I lived there for 26 years (Madison Heights acutally), and can vouche for the crappy roads. I just got back from visiting my folks, drove from Atlanta, and you can tell when you hit Michigan because the roads get bumpy as hell.

Downtown Detroit, definitely hit Greektown, great food. The casinos weren't open yet when I left so I don't know about them, but the Windsor casino is nice. If the Red Wings are playing definitely head to Joe Louis Arena and see the game, might be a bit expensive, but it's worth it.

If you're interested in old stuff check out Henry Ford Museum. Not you're normal museum, but its got some neat stuff.

Ooh, good call. I've been there many times and they have a lot of cool stuff. One time they had the limo that JFK was assassinated in. Not that the assassination was cool, but it was wierd being that close to a piece of history.

If you're in Toronto check out the Hockey Hall of Fame (if you even have a remote interest in hockey), and the CN Tower.

Between detroit and toronto there's not much...just city after city with nothing terribly interesting. If you were going from new york to toronto you could check out niagara falls, there's more than just the falls there (and btw, the canadian falls put the american ones to shame).

Ontario's really a better place to do stuff in the summer.

I love to drive, and thought that the trip from detroit to toronto was fun, although short on scenery.

Henry Ford museum is amazing, as is Greenfield Village, The Detroit Science Center, and if you like art, the Detroit Institute of Art. There is quite alot of history in detroit, so you wont be bored.

here is a good site

Thanks.

I'll stop by in Niagara falls.
so, looking niagara falls is better from Canada than from USA (Buffalo) ??

mos deffinatley go to a leaf's, wings, raptors, pistons game, if you can get tickets! i love going to stadiums when i am in diffrent places. Also you will love Niagara falls, i had the best time there just lots of cool unique places like, the ripley's believe it or not theather is ultra cool u should check it out. One other thing you should consider is a helicopter tour of niagra falls go to http://niagarahelicopters.com/ for more info and they have a discount coupon too.

Yes, the falls are best viewed from Canada. Like others have said, not a lot of scenery between Detroit and Niagara or Toronto.

I've been to Niagara Falls three times. Twice on the Canadian side, and once on the American side. I think the American experience of the falls is superior, due to the fact that Goat Island (which is in between the falls) is on the American side. You can go there and see the falls close up. The Canadian side has the advantage in that you can see the falls from the front. Avoid the city of Niagara Falls, ON, however! It is a tourist trap. If it's easy to cross the border at Niagara Falls, then you should take a trip across the other side so you can see both sides.

I just Visit the website Niagara Helicopters
but in the website they didn't mention how much it cost
Anyone know how much it cost?

Also what can we see in TORONTO Island???

Thanks.

I'm going to Detroit, Toronto, Niagara Falls for 7 days / 1 week.
Any idea how I split the day during the vacation?

Which one is better?
Toronto or Vancouver?
coz last summer I've been to Vancouver and I love it.

spend more time in toronto. It's a much nicer city than Detroit. Stop by Windsor too, that is a nice town to have fun in 🙂

I know you asked for museums in Detroit, but In Toronto, you should check out the Science Center. It's always been one of my favorite places.
