Planning on a trip to DC in November 12-15th, am driving down there would prefer to be able to be somewhere close to a metro station because I definitely do NOT wish to attempt driving in DC. I'm looking at Kayak.com but it is somewhat overwhelming...any assistance and tips from our DC area ATOTers would be awesome...

Thanks!

whatever you do, don't park in front of the Washington Monument after 4:00pm Mon thru Fri.

Arlington, VA is the hipster/trendy night spot with metro service into DC to see all the museums, etc.

My recommendation is Rockville, MD area, plenty of parking and hotels are cheap. It also has some night life and it's about 30 Minutes for me to get to Union Station on the RED line.

never took the metro from there, but Rockvillie is pretty far and out of the way.

It's actually not that bad. I dated a girl who lived in Rockville and we used to just hope on the Metro and head into the city for the night. I'm sure hotel prices in Rockville would be cheaper than in DC. However, for the OP, whenever it comes to staying in DC I always recommend the JW Marriott on Pennsylvania Ave. It's essentially in the heart of DC. 10-15 minute walk to the Whitehouse, Capitol Building, Monuments, Smithsonians, etc. I always stay there when I go to DC.

I prefer Bethesda to anywhere else in the DC area for bars unless you are looking for Dance Club.

Safe lots of cool restaurants and pretty much everywhere in Bethesda is within walking distance of the metro. It is also more upscale/safe at night too. There is a ton of parking garages that are free after 10 PM on Friday for the rest of the weekend too. I find Arlington way too spread out so you can't really bar crawl like you can in Adams Morgan or Bethesda.

It is within a couple miles of Tenleytown/Chevy chase and there are so many great restaurants in a small area in those areas as well.

For suburbs Fairfax County >*

But for urban areas Montgomery County/NW DC is where its at.

What are you planning on doing in DC Deathbua?

we stayed at http://www.virginiansuites.com/index.cfm in Arlington, it was a short walk to a metro station and we were in capital square in just 10 min. or so. it was only about 100 bucks a night too. the hotel was very nice, the room had a small kitchen with full size fridge, stove, microwave, basic pots and pans.... etc. the staff was also very good, we were urban backpacking and they let us keep our packs there the last day, locked up so we could come back to get them before going to the airport. its also very close to the airport, and to alexandria ( south on the metro) which has some amazing smaller restaurants, and is a really great, smaller town style area, also right on the river.

We are going to visit one of my wifes friends, who work/live in DC, they only live in a 1 bedroom apartment so we'd rather get a hotel. And then probably goto the Museums probably the Aquarium, the capitol all that tourist type stuff. But its mostly just to get away. I start a new job in November and had a few days off between old job and new.

We figured we could probably spend four days in DC and with luck spend less than 800 bucks.
