So I was talking to my GF about cooking and I told her that I would cook for her one day rather than us going out to eat. My parents are going to be out of town in a few weeks so I figured that would be a good time to do this.

She likes all types of food and is willing to try something new, so what I need here are ideas for something uniqe for me to cook and serve to her.

If you have any ideas please post them and if you have the recipe that would help too, or a link to it... I need ideas for the whole meal not just one thing, so the more you can help me with the better.

Im a decent cook so I should be able to cook pretty much anything as long as it doesnt require some really special cooking technique or something.

BTW I will make this before I cook it for her to make sure I can make it and it doesnt taste like crap :p.

Thanks,
Josh

Maybe try like defferant types of food, like have one part mexican, one part itailain, and so on. But good god this is making me hungrey, or u can make stire fry, but if u do that, make it in front of her, so she can see u flip the vegs, they love that well good luck

Manicotti and a nice bottle of wine sounds good to me, and is relatively easy to prepare but seems fancy.

You could try homemade spaghetti. Is she a vegetarian? Does she not like certain types of food?

The first dinner I ever made for a woman was homemade spaghetti. It was my mom's recipie, and it was a huge hit.

Yea I was thinking about spaghetti or lasagna, but I want to make something a little different..... :-/

She is not a vegetarian, and she will try anything once, so anything is really possible.

Thanks for the link prodigy ill look through it and see if anything catches my eye :D

It would help if you told us what she liked.

Italian food is usually very easy to prepare for the new chef. Spaghetti bolognese, baked ziti, lasagna, manicotti, chicken parma, eggplant parma, etc.

If she likes veal, I'd suggest making weinerschnitzel. Add some spaetzle and some sauteed vegetables and you're set.

If you have a dishwasher you can make a very tasty and very interesting dish - "Dishwasher Salmon."
Sounds bizarre but it comes out pretty well. Take a piece of foil about 12" long. Place one salmon fillet in the middle, drizzle with olive oil and place some dill on it. fold the edges in a bit then fold over the salmon into a packet, folding the edges shut again to make it completely sealed. toss it in an EMPTY dishwasher for a full cycle. Works great and tastes good too. :p

I have so many favorite recipes.... but, for something different, there are a few websites you should check out:
my very favorite
or just foodtv.com

I suggest you try sushi. california rolls are great for a beginner and are fairly simple to make. there is a recipe on the first website i suggested. make those and miso soup and a quick salad.

no matter what, have chocolate covered strawberries for dessert!

You can never go wrong with a pasta dinner. It's easy to make and even if you have to buy pre-made sauce, they make some really good tasting ones these days. If you wanna impress her a lil just throw some bread in the oven (put a little water on it first for a crispier crust) then put some olive oil in a bowl, add spices i.e pepper, red pepper, garlic powder, etc. anything you think might taste good. And serve it up, get a nice bottle of Merlot as well. It makes for a nice dinner with the g/f......just don't wear white bro....hahha.....good luck

You're lucky, you have someone that isn't too fussy. The person I'm seeing is sooooo freaking difficult it's discouraging. lol. can't find anything she likes. or if i finally do find something she does, there's no places within 100 miles that serve it. lol

try cornish hens with a homemade potatoe dish, fresh veggies, salad and some crusty french bread
they are easy to prepare and she will think you are a natural 'martha stewart' ;)

PS, i know pasta is pretty fool-proof and good, but i would stear away from it.

What about cajun food? I can post very good (and easy) jambalaya or chicken etouffee recipes for you if you'd like.

Please tell me you're kidding. I could just imagine her looking all over the kitchen for the source of the cooking fish smell (oven, microwave, toaster oven...). "Check the dishwasher!"
