Going to Colombia in a few weeks. What should/shouldn't I do?

So my friend and I speak a little Spanish between the two of us, and he cashed in some Continental dollars for 2 tickets to Colombia. We're gonna be there for 7-8 days, which we'll probably divide evenly between Bogota and Medellin. We're looking to do everything on the cheap, but with the exchange what it is, that looks like it shouldn't be much of a problem.

Anyone have any must-sees, must-eats, etc. Places to go, avoid, stay, play, and so on. I will happily post vacation pictures afterwards if anyone's interested. Thanks!

Anyone have any non-cocaine ideas for me?

Also, Bogota is statistically safer than Washington DC, so knock that shit off.

Ok, first of all, Bogota is full of interesting places, museums, etc. Check out "La Candelaria" neighborhood. It's one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in all of Colombia. Also, check out "El Museo del Oro"... (Museum of Gold)... Last but not least, climb to "Monserrate". There are many more places to visit, but those are the must-visit places...

statistically safer... for people who look columbian.

Colombia is not that bad anymore. I urge all Americans to stop being so afraid and visit one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Many people do every day. You won't regret it.

OP: If you go to Medellin, just enjoy the beautiful women. They are worth the visit...

My gf is colombian. Her parents are going to move back next year. They bought a house and everything. I told them i would visit. First thing they told me. "DOn't bring anything that is worth anything with you".....My reponse, "OK, I will not bring your daughter..."

Only reason it is not as bad as it was is because they are finally cracking down on the crap that happened earliler, so it has become harder to do that bad stuff. It is still as dangerous though.

Columbia is as safe as any other SA country. I have a friend that's been there for the last 3 months

Yes, because anecdotal evidence can always be applied to the whole.

I drove buzzed all the time in High School, and never crashed. That means it is safe.
