I'm hitting up Lou Malnati's and/or Giordano's, Hot Doug's, Ruth's Chris, Feast Restaurant...any local favorites I should hit as appetizers?

Me when I come home:

I know. I was confused as to why you listed it as you can eat that anywhere....

<---doesn't know if it is normal to have 3 Ruth's Chris' less than 10 miles from his house

Yeah we have one here so that doesn't seem like "local" either.

I'd skip the RuthChris and go to Smith and Wollensky for steak (they dry-age in house). I'd also highly recommend Shaw's Crab House (if you like seafood) on Hubbard between State and Wabash.

I'm from Ohio. I've never been there :( Is there a better steak house that I won't need a mortgage to eat at?

fail.. Gino's East for pizza. Period.

Also, for a cool experience, see uf you can eat at the Backstage Bistro at the Chicago Art Institute. The culinary art students run the restaurant and you get a gourment experience pretty reasonable. Open view into the kitchen for watching them at work.

also, pro tip...don't bother with Sears Tower (or whatever the name is now). Go to the Hancock building at dusk to see the sunset. Instead of going to the observation deck, go to the restaurant one floor down and have a drink at the bar. Similar cost, better value.

I am still bothered by the fact that demon dogs closed...

for the best dog in chicago you have to go a few miles outside the city to Gene and Judes....

portillos isnt bad though for a rubber dog..

Pizza - Lou Malnati's
Italian beef - Johnny's beef
Steak - Gibson's in Rosemont (near the O'hare airport)
Gene n Judes makes awesome hot dogs, dont you dare ask for ketchup, they will throw you out!

Burgers- by far the best (and coolest / unique) is Kumas Corner. It's a bar thats know for their Rock themed burgers

Tip: look for Tilted Kilt (pub /eatery) it's like Hooters but girls wear short kilt skirts-good food too

The Coco Pazzo Cafe is also a pretty good Italian-type restaurant; just one block east of Michigan a few blocks north of the river (on N. St. Claire & Ontario)

No one talking about Gino's East? It's THE representative Chicago deep dish pizza.
