Ok guys, I'm probably gonna buy an Xbox or PS2 within the next week or so. I'm still having trouble deciding which one would be best. I now have a PS1. Here are some of the pros I have for each one.

PS2
1. Ability to play my old PS1 games and would only have to have 1 console.
2. more games available.

Xbox
1. I would get 2 free games with the bundle.
2. Hardware seems to be better.
3. Graphics looks pretty awesome.

Which one of these systems do yall think would serve me better in the future. The lesser games on Xbox isnt really a problem with me, looks like all the games I like are on Xbox anyway. But it probably would be nice to have only one console.
Right now I'm leaning more toward the Xbox, but I would like to hear your opinions on both systems.
Thanks
David

What types of games do you want to play? Are there games that are exclusive to either platform that you want to play ie GTA3/Vice City, MechAssault, Halo, Splinter Cell, etc?

Only reason Id buy a PS2 over the Xbox is to play GTA3: Vice City, but thats just me. Xbox seems to have many kickass games coming out

If you have broadband and would like to play on-line, X-Box all the way. The rest is really determined by what exclusive games that you want to play. Having a second console is no biggie. I have a X-Box and a Dreamcast and play both.

Splinter Cell isn't exclusive anymore. Regardless, I would choose an X-Box over a PS2 at this moment in time now.

Get an xbox. I had a pS2 and I can tell you I doubt you'll be spending much time with your old PS1 games once you get it. If you're interested in online Xbox is definitely the natural choice. PS2 has more games now, but Xbox has enough to occupy your time so anything extra you can't use anyway. I'd love to have vice city on the Xbox and unfortunately only the PS2 has it, but the xbox does have a lot of good stuff coming out and Xbox live is a huge benefit to it.

Xbox... especially if you have any intentions of online play. Xbox live is awesome.

I bought an XBox over PS2 because the XBox simply has much more power. I have seen the same games on both XBox and PS2, and the XBox versions are just much more detailed. Plus the Xbox has the large hard drive, while the PS2 requires a memory card to save games.

The only thing I wish we had on XBox was GTA Vice City, but that should be coming out on PC sometime and I will get it then.

DOA Xtreme Volleyball looks like a cool game. Also Halo 2 will be out this year. And XBox live is a huge success. I think for the future, the Xbox has way more upside than the PS2.

Yes, I do have broadband and I was checking out the Xbox live. I currently play some online pc games so the Xbox live would be a great benifit.

Do you guys think there will be a price drop soon. An if so will it include the 2 free games their offering now. Do those 2 free games suck anyway?

Some people really got into JSRF but it looks strange to me.

Sega GT isn't too bad.

Free is free though.

And no, I don't expect any price drops.

I haven't heard of a price drop so don't hold your breath. One will happen sometime, but I doubt anytime soon. The two free games are ok. Many people like jet set radio future and it got decent reviews on IGN. Sega gt 2002 also got good reviews and I've spent many hours on it as well. They aren't excellent games, but they are not token crap games either. Of course we both know you're getting Halo along with that Xbox.

As Murphy said JSRF future is very weird. I played for a few hours, but in the end I felt that I was being brain washed or something. It's just totally fvckin nutty.

It sounds like you want an XBox. The strength of the PS2's exclusive library seems to be platformers and adventure games.

Playing old PS1 content is probably a bonus, but if you have the old console available, you might as well use that.

I had to make that choice and I did about 3 weeks ago. I am very happy with my PS2. It has so many better games. Vice City is amazing. You also can play DVDs on it without having to buy a remote.

Go with the PS2

WHAT!?!?!?!
You mean to tell me you passed up the opportunity to stalk the Skoorbs on XBL?

I'm gonna consider that another sign of the coming apocalypse!

I'm currently making my order for a PS2. There's one game that seals the deal, GT3 A-Spec. That's the reason I wanted a PS2 when it first came out and that's why I'm buying one now.

Picture with me:

Your vastly more graphically powerful Xbox hooked up to a large widescreen TV. You stick in MechAssault. The game comes up in its HD glory, including native 5.1 Dolby Digital support through your surround sound receiver. You click online play over your broadband connection and - teaming up with a couple of buddies you work with and talk to over the included headset/mic - form the baddest Mech wolfpack the online gaming world has ever seen.

The future is Xbox.

If you can only one console and Nintendo games are not your thing....then PS2 is the obvious choice.

Oh damn, I forgot to add that only the Xbox has real-time digital surround during games! Mechassault on a nice sound system and big tv is a treat.
