Going to buy one of the nextgen ATI Video Cards

But I'm really after the midrange of the nextgen ATI 520's?!

Anyway, which one would it really be? Is there a model name or number and performance information on what the midrange video card will offer?

I'm a noob 😕

Can't quite buy one yet 🙂 better wait another two weeks and find out what these R520 parts are capable of. The low-end stuff is supposedly 128bit mem bus tech which, IMHO is not good.

Sorry, we won't know about your inquiry for a couple of weeks yet then we'll all see what the mid-range cards are capable of. I have a feeling that the Radeon X800XT PE will beat those mid-range cards to hell and back.🙂

If your a Noob why are oyu making a decision about a video card from one manufacturer without knowing the performance of it in comparison to another competitors. Don't be one of those I will only get ATI because Nvidia is junk type of people. Samething goes the other way. I Prefer Nvidia because of driver performance and lack of driver issues. That didn't stop me from using 2 Radeons in a row for the last tthree years in terms of the 8500 AIW DV and a 9800XT. If you want to be a good geek (nerd, techie) then you need to pay attention to everything. Don't spend your money completely on company preference, use it to make tough choice when things are close but don't go into it blindingly.

Again don't start out life becoming a ATI fanboy or an Nvidiot, or a Intel yes man, or a AMD dreamer. Make intelligent decision with good evidence and rational.

I think the high end cards are the x1800's...the mid range are the x1600's and the lowe end are like the x1300's.....I thinkthey are like the x800, x700-x600, to x300's now in terms of market....

just wait and see how the midrange parts perform before thinking of buying them. NV is supposedly launching their 7800NU soon.

Without being sure about price, performance or availability? Wow.

This is why I think the ATI cards are going to debut at higher prices than I'd be happy with. They know that initially they can count on purchases from folks who refuse to consider cards from Nvidia. ATI would be foolish to pass up on that kind of money. "What? You're saying you'll only buy our cards? Umm, ok... $1000 then." Once the fanboys are milked, then we'll see prices go down. That's if the releases aren't Press Edition cards only, though I think that's less likely after Nvidia's smooth 7800 rollout.

There's a rumor that the rv530 cards are actually derived from the r580 core, with less pipes. If that's true, we might see some crazy clock speeds on those things, and if the 12 pipe r530 can hit 700mhz, a 16 pipe 7800nu would be hard pressed to beat that.

I dinna wanna burst any bubbles here and soitenly would like this not to be the case but don't expect low to midrange parts to necessarily be much better bang for the rupee. Remember, a primary motivation for new parts is to lower costs with more efficient processes while maintaining certain price points and only begrudgingly offering more performance when warranted by competition (profits tend to even out in the end given higher design costs). In the recent past, previous generation higher range parts have oft been better buys than the newest lower range ones, when discounted a bit and especially when used. This new generation does differ in offering a number of new useful features though.
