Going to pick up the last couple of "Wheel of Time" series books.

Anything good you can recommend?

Fiction or not doesn't matter.
 
Good choice, although WoT is definitely starting to drag IMHO.

I'd recommend plenty of other stuff, but that would be one long-ass post. 😀

Are you interested in any particular genre at all? Let me know and I'll be glad to throw a few suggestions out.
 
Terry Goodkind's latest Sword of Truth novel came out yesterday. It will be sitting on the table as you walk in directly in front of you.

Not trying to start a flamewar, but I personally think Goodkind sucks ass as a writer, not to mention a lot of his stuff seems to have been cribbed from Wheel of Time.

That said, J.V. Jones' new book A Fortress of Gray Ice (sequel to the first book A Cavern of Black Ice) comes out on August 1st. Excellent series so far

EDIT: I'll throw out a few recommendations.

J.V. Jones' Book of Words trilogy (start with The Baker's Boy)

Sean Russell - Beneath The Vaulted Hills

Raymond E. Feist and Janny Wurts' Empire trilogy (start with Daughter of the Empire)

I've got plenty of other recommendations. The above are all fantasy, but if you're looking for other genres or more fantasy, I can recommend a lot of others.

Found "Demon on the Waters". True story about a mutiny on the whaleship Globe. Supposedly the bad guy is a cross between Hannibal Lecter and Capt. Ahab.

Picked up a couple WoT

"Impossible Worlds" A book about M.C Escher and others

lastly, "years best Sci Fi" 20th annual edition.

Seconded. Just finished it, one of the most enjoyable books I have read in a while. I particularly enjoyed his intelligent, sarcastic sense of humor. Went out today about the rest of the Hitchhiker trilogy (consisting of five books).

I haven't read Fallen Dragon, but Peter F. Hamilton is an excellent writer; his Night's Dawn trilogy (The Reality Dysfunction, The Neutronium Alchemist, The Naked God) is complex and engaging, and his books in the Nano Flower series are quite entertaining.
 
Anything by Neal Stephenson. (Snow Crash, Cryptonomicon, Diamond Age, Zodiac) All his stuff is excellent, and often quite funny.

Anything by Eric Garcia. Done two murder mysteries (Anonymous Rex & Casual Rex) and a caper story (Matchstick Men). Odd, but totally hilarious 😀

Anything by Tim Powers. A more original fantasy author I have never seen. Look for Declare or Last Call.

Hyperion series by Dan Simmons. Highly inventive sci-fi, first book is a marvel!

On Stranger Tides would have been so much better the Pirates of the Carribean 🙂
