Going to be stuck between flights for 6 hours. Ideas on things to do?

I'm headed to Cabo San Lucas with 2 other friends. Our flight leaves at 8 AM, then we are stuck in Phoenix for 6 hours.

This also applies to the way back, we will be stuck in Las Vegas airport for 6 hours. Anyone know if we can leave the airport, or any other ideas of things to do? Obviously we will be hitting the bar, but we don't want to spend 6 hours at the bar because they may not let us on the flight!

That happened to my family, we were stuck in Chicago for about 5 hours. We didn't have much carry-on items so we just went sight see-ing. As long as you have your ticket and ID for your next flight, you are allowed to leave and return to the airport.

Well it's vegas, they'll let you on the flight unless you can't stand up. There are also slot machines in the airport, I'm not sure about table games though.

Phoenix airport on the other hand sucks. Everything closes around 9-10pm in the terminals I've been in.

Find the unaccompanied minors room, they've usually got video games and sodas in there. They might flag you as a pedophile when you ask though.

Vegas is easy. Just sit down at the nearest video poker machine. You will see a bunch of them the moment you step off the plane.
And yes, you can leave the airport, but once you factor in a taxi to get anywhere useful, and a taxi to get back, and needing to go through security again, its not much worth it with only 6 hours.

Once I get past security, I just stay in the secured area. Too much of a pain to go through more than necessary.

If you have a laptop, get online and nef or finish a project you have been putting off;
Bring a book or a bunch of magazines or newspapers;
Go to a sports bar and watch whatever is on (buy something that is refillable, like maybe a coke - but check with the waitress);
Take a nap (that's the father-of-young-children speaking );

When we waited for 4 hours between flights to go to Ireland, I did Sudoku, read some of a book, and my fiance and I played MarioKart together on our DSs. It helped pass the time.

What airline? That will determine the terminel you will be in at Phoenix. If you are in Terminal 2....bring something to do because there is not anything there.
