Scored a nice deal off expedia($691 for round trip air from Detroit + 3 nights 4 star hotel) for me and the fiance in New Orleans in a couple weeks. We're staying in the French Quarter.

I need some suggestions! We've both never been. I know I want to goto the Aquarium of Americas cuz thats just my kinda thing...she wanted to goto Cafe DeMonde(i think)

Beyond that what else do we ABSOLUTELY need to eat/see/drink??

loup garou should be able to help. I've been to New Orleans dozens of times (I live like 40 miles away), but I can't recommend much other than the WWII memorial. There are tons of little restaurants and cafes that you should try.

Bourbon Street/French Quarter has a bad reputation, but it's not that bad. Just keep your wallet in a safe place, appologize if you offend anyone, and keep your nose clean. Unless you want to get your ear talked off, avoid mentioning Katrina.

You missed Mardi Gras D:

The Aquarium and Cafe Du Monde are good places to go. I also recommend going to the Audubon Zoo (I like it, at least)

Besides the French Quarter, I can't think of anything outstanding to recommend.

Mr. B's is a decent restaurant. So is Tujagues.

I always forget the names of the great restaurants I find while we are down there, and always discover new ones when I am there. Check out the garden district, get your self some boiled crawfish and make a mess while you devour them.

Get laid.

Random one night stands are a must for trips like that.

Oh wait, you have your SO with you, scratch that.

Get drunk, pass out beads and chill?

Go to the National WWII museum (close to downtown)

Go to the Louisiana Civil War museum (close to downtown)

Go to the Chalmette Battlefield park downriver from the quarter (ferry ride) - where Andrew Jackson became famous for the battle of New Orleans

Go to K-Paul's restaurant in the french quarter.

Go and see the house of the rising sun brothel (now a bed and breakfast).

Go to the market.

Bourbon street is not what its blown up to be. Lots to see there during the day - I've just scratched the surface.

Harrahs is close by the Quarter, depending on where you stay could be about a block away.

Take a tour of the cemetery and maybe parts of the Quarter. I thought it was interesting. Try going to NOLA restaurant, i thought it was good and reasonable. Many other good places to eat. Have fun, have many drinks and relax.
