My WinXP install has been pretty good to me in every aspect, except for the fact that I can't run any sort of firewall without a BSOD. I've been considering a total format/reinstall for some time, but I keep putting it off. Lo and behold, I have a Tuesday off this upcoming week, so I'm going to do it.
What directories/files do I need to backup to retain my personal settings (and if all possible, the start menu)? C:\documents and settings seems the most obvious, is all my outlook express email saved there as well? I know IE 6 shoves stuff from the cache into several folders, I won't back them up if at all possible. I keep all apps on another partition (C: is for OS only), so saving those won't be an issue. I'd just like to save at the very least my desktop settings, icons, folders, and possibly the start menu. Will just backing up "Documents and Settings do the trick? TIA...
