Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do and see and where to go eat? I'd love to try Maryland crabcakes and seafood. I've been to Baltimore before but only to the Inner Harbor/boardwalk area.

Thanks!

I'm not sure what's interesting to other people. I've lived around here my whole life, so it seems pretty ordinary to me. Hit Fells Point for drinking/night life. You might like the aquarium, and you could see if there's any concerts going on at the Meyerhoff(generally classical), or Pier 6(generally popular music).

They're delicious. It's basically bread crumbs and blue crab pan fried, or broiled, and eaten on a sandwich or plate.

Any recommendations on restaurants? I'm afraid of hitting a tourist trap restaurant like the ones I went to in SF that were horrible.

Not really. I don't get out that way much anymore. If no one else from Baltimore chimes in, I'll look around online for a name I recognize. AFAIK it's hard to get a bad crab cake in Baltimore. Some are certainly better than others, but it's all good :^)

When I make my way up through B'more I always stop by G&M. They're just outside of the 695 Beltway in Linthicum Heights. Best damn crabcake EVAR!

I also like the Chesapeake House at Tangier, VA but you need to either take a ferry to that island or arrive by boat. Good ole fashioned home cooking.

I couldn't even find any real restaurants when I went to Baltimore. Stay away from the Inner Harbor, all tourist crap. The 'famous' Rusty Scupper was like a Red Lobster so don't go there.

The last meal I had there was at LP Steamers, which finally seamed like an authentic little place. They throw the crabs right down on the table for you to hammer away on, pretty fun. Still, I don't see the point of Old Baying the shells of the crabs when none of it affects the flavor of the meat... It was a fun place but not that great...

I know if you walk past the aquarium (going away from the inner harbor) there was a nice neighborhood with lots of little restaurants... only one of which was seafood/crabs  We didn't see that one until after we ate at a little Italian place (Cafe Gia i believe) that was really good so I can't tell you how that seafood place was.

The Aquarium was fun... the ballpark is awesome. I didn't hit up any night life spots though... the night after the ball game must have been some kind of sorority party night thing. like a million partying black people on the way back to the hotel. A short white guy and asian girl dont really fit into that type of crowd :p

That was Little Italy. You don't go there for the crab cakes, but the Italian food's excellent. The surrounding neighborhood leaves much to be desired, but the mafia keeps things under control directly in Little Italy ;^) You could also go to Highlandtown for Greek food. It's nothing super amazing, but it's a short bus trip, and there's some good restaurants, and nice little blue collar bars you can grab a beer at.

Stay away from Phillips, it's crap. Little Italy has some very nice restaurants. Powerplant Live is old and played out but if you've never been there you may enjoy it. Check out an O's game. Head over to the low rises and ask for Bubbles.

I don't want to ruin your trip, but be careful and always be aware of your surroundings. Baltimore is notorious for crime. There have also been quite a few random attacks on people at the harbor.

I would recommend Fogo De Chao (Brazillian steakhouse).

Just a note, if you go to an area with Blue lights on poles in the street, you are in a bad area.

Don't walk around the inner harbor at night, if you wanna go out at night, stick to fells point or canton areas

Wow! You guys were right about the area being shady. I did not feel safe at all around the hotel area. I saw guys yelling and shaking trees, kids walking around at 2AM, cops everywhere. There was some kind of free outdoor concert going on and it was a madhouse the second day I was there.

I ended up going to Mo's. It was pretty good. Thanks for the tips!

If you are still around the B-More area tomorrow, there are great fireworks at the inner harbor. Also, it doesn't seem like anyone mentioned the aquarium, but it's good too (but a little pricey - maybe I'm just too used to free museums being a DCer)

We skipped the aquarium because I couldn't believe how expensive it was. We went on the Duck tour instead.

We also got some crab cakes in Faidley's in the Lexington Mall.

I'm actually back in NYC so I'm going to check out the fireworks here tomorrow. Fortunately, they moved it to the Hudson river side so I have a much better view this time around.
