Going to a wedding, what should I know?

I'm going to the Florida wedding after all.

I've never been to a wedding before.

What's the general structure of the day's events? Will I not see my friend for the whole day, or does he have a party of some kind the night before? When is it appropriate to gift him a gift? What happens in the hours before and after the wedding?

Do you really have to ask;) Use your imagination.....;)

Anyways....every wedding is different.

But this is how it usually goes.....

you go the wedding....watch them get married....go to after wedding party...dance...get drunk....Eye the hot chicks....

I always thought gifts were given before the whole thing starts....

Okay I know the bride and groom are going to be getting it on... I mean from a guest's perspective. =)

Do people seriously hook up at weddings? Too bad I have a girlfriend. =)

But I'll keep that in mind if anything should happen =)

Gifts I believe you can bring to the reception. There's usually a table setup for them. Before the wedding, they get ready. Afterwards, they drink.

Stay out of the way of the bride, she will be... on edge.

Don't draw on the groom in any way, unless you would like to cause him pain (sign his back with a female name ).

Do you know others at the wedding? A destination wedding where you know no one won't be much fun, since the grooms going to have very little time for you.

Single women at weddings get all emotional about the event and will be more apt for fun ;).

show up. watch ceremony. clap. take pictures. go home and pre-game. go to the reception. have 2 drinks. eat. listen to speeches. drink. dance. go home and go to bed.

edit: oh yeah there is more clapping mixed in there somewhere.

Usually, if you are not in the wedding party, its just showing up for the ceramony and then for the reception afterwards.

Some folks will invite out of town guests to the rehersal dinner but don't count on it (That is usually the night before).

You will see him at the reception as that is the time everyone parties. A good gift is always money. doesnt have to be a lot, jsut what you can afford.

Before and after the wedding are up to the groom and bride if they have any things planned.
Some folks will have a brunch the night after the wedding, others will not.

This is my concern... I don't even live in the U.S. and I know very few of my friend (groom)'s friends.

I might know perhaps one or two others there. So maybe I will be bored...

Luckily it's on a beach so I can just swim all day.

If you don't know a lot of folks down there, get a "game plan" before you leave. Find out what there is to do in the area. What attractions there are... and plan on exploring by yourself, however, you could meet some other folks in the same situation as you so keep your plans open to possibly include other people.

Hopefully, the bride and groom have taken some care to realize that people are not familiar with the area and will provide you with some info about the area and a chance to meet other attending the wedding.

Definitely.

Go rent the Wedding Crashers if you want to see what *really* goes on at weddings so you can prepare yourself.

Most day of schedules are:

Wedding
Break
Dinner
Reception

You put the gift on a table at the reception.
