Hey guys,

I've been to a few ranges but not for ages, and a group of friends and I would like to go to one for an afternoon.

We're in Toronto though, and I'm not sure if you need a gun license to go to a range and/if you can rent a firearm?

Thanks

A license to go to a range? No. In Canada you don't even need a license to fire a gun, just be supervised by someone that is... suprisingly as we are such a friggin leftest paradise, but it isn't that bad yet. Give it time though. :(

Usually you will have to pay a "guest" fee though if you're not a range member.. usually something like $5-$25. That will let you use the range and also be covered by the clubs insurance policy.

Most ranges don't rent guns unless they are touristy-ranges, like in a mall or something. I don't know of any of those in Ontario, but I suspect there are some. I know there are a few in Alberta (probably a little more of a drive than your planning).

Best bet as to find out which of your friends has guns, and ask to go with them to the range. Offer to pay for ammo.

bernse has it right
In fact at the range in Edmonton they asked if my 4 yr old wanted to go in and shoot?
I thought that would be a cool photo op but my wife would have KILLLED ME!

Ok so I'll have to phone around and find out if there are any places offering to rent them.

Thanks for the info!

No Problem. Have an idea of what you want to shoot before you ask questions though.. pistols? Rifles? Not all ranges are licensed to shoot restricted (IE - Pistols, and the "black" guns like ARs) so you'll probably be SOL to shoot there. As well, most indoor ranges aren't set up for rifle rounds, so if its an indoor range it will likely be for pistols or .22 exclusively (or pistol ammo rifles, like a (9MM AR or something like that).

Best of luck! Any help needed, feel free to ask.

PS: Don't feed the trolls. ;)

Welcome to the world of anything gun related. The people like bigrash like to troll threads because they dont fully understand firearms. Good luck at the range, and give yourself time...you arent gonna "headshot" first time out.

Why would someone with a gun be an idiot?

Because that's what his 5th grade teacher told him last year...;)
