Going to a bring-your-own-food BBQ affair soon.

What should I bring, and how should I prepare it? And, how should it be grilled?

I'm thinking chicken wings. BTW, does anybody know exactly when a chicken wing is done?

When the meat is no longer pink, the center of the meat is greater than 160F, and the juices from the meat are clear.

potato salad?

buffalo wings are baked in the oven, or dep fried without batter
They can also be wrapped in aluminum foil and cooked on a grill or an aluminum foil put down on the grill tray and the wings sit on top of it.

Indeed.

I would bring something like ribs or something. I would make my own wings, but they never turn out as good as the restaurantes..

jumbo prawn, mushroom, pepper, and pearl onion ka-bobs (you can marinate the ka-bobs in your favorite flavoring, ie bbq, meskeet, teriyaki, etc...) corn on the cob. mac or potato salad. maybe some steamer clams.

i had never heard of a BYO food bbq til liek a few years ago..that caught me off guard..i still dont understand why have people over if you cant afford to feed them

Poor man's gathering. And, it's more fun this way.

it must be an american thing cuz when i invited some of my non mexican coworkers to my kids first b-day they were amazed we had so much of everything and that my wife and i came around and handed them plate of food and kept filling the plates for them as well as making them a take home plate when they left.

I grew up used to the fact that the host's job was to make sure everyone had enought to eat and drink and that there was more than enough food..that makes for a good host in our culture.

I can't stand bring your own food BBQs. I usually spend good money and bring good food, while everybody brings typical hotdogs and hamburgers. Of course people start mooching off me then.

I hear ya- I'm always the one in with a decent bottle of wine, only to wind up with some knucklehead's home made sangria half way through.
