I'm a shorts and hat type of dude....

Can i wear that or do i have to dress up?

I'm not religious and I've never been to a baptism before.

shorts and hats doesn't seem so bad. its not like you are skipping around in your underwear sprinkling water at people.
 
I'd avoid the shorts & hat.

Dress pants & a nice shirt would be a better idea.


I'm basing my recommendation off many hrs. in churchs, & some baptism ceremonies too.
 
I'd say it depends on when the part is. If it is right after the baptism, the ppl may still be in there dress clothes from the ceremony, but if its later on, most ppl will have changed to something a little more comfortable
 
youll probably look out of place in shorts and a hat.

button up shirt, and slacks is what ppl will be wearing
 
it wouldn't hurt if you dress up a little bit. after all its an important day for somebody and they're happy to share this day with you.

Also mabey a dead fetis on a rope might be good, but that ones up to you.
