Overkill unless you're gaming at 24" or above 3-way Eyefinity resolutions. A single 5970 cuts through everything like butter even at 2560x1600 for me. In most games I can even get away with running 2XSSAA, which is basically as demanding as running double the internal res.

I don't know if I'd do it, even if I had the money. But it would be fun to mess around with.

I wonder why that auction didn't show up for me
I searched for "4870x2" verbatim no quotes

Maybe because there is a space between '4870' and 'x2' with that auction? I don't know if the space can throw off Ebay's search, but I'm guessing it can.

two more dell 3008wfp monitors on the way to complete my rig.

I know I'd like to see pics when everything is together. :) A single 26" monitor pretty much dominates my desk, I imagine that 3 30" monitors would need a lot of space.

I thought CF didn't work fully with Eyefinity yet? Last I heard was that a single card worked fine but dual CF cards didn't. Or did AMD fix that problem?

Sorry to post in an old thread but since I was considering picking up a second 5970 recently, and stumbled across this thread, I figured I'd drop my 2 cents.

As someone considering dual 5970, coming from a single 5970, I can say that it is not necessarily overkill. Sure, for people with one monitor it would be. But even a 5970 is pushed to its limits at 5760x1080 eyefinity, which is 3 monitors. I have mine clocked to 900/1200 and it is still not good enough to use Edge Detect AA in some of the harsher games. Usually when in Eyefinity mode, I am using Box AA at like 4X. So a single 5970 is by no means an end all god card capable of doing everything.
