Tomorrow will be my first paintballin' trip. What do I need to know, besides wear protective clothing?

wear shoes or socks that u tuck your pants into, and if you have boots, wear them, cuz alot of the places are indoor, which means sawdust which gets into shoes and makes it not fun to run.

This is an outdoor thing, and it's a bit more strategic than a deathmatch, as I understand it. Most people will be wearing camo.

Most people will be wearing camo.Be aware of your surroundings. Turn off everything but instincts. You see something move, shoot the b!tch. You see something move shoot and duck...you see a big fat ol' paintball whizzin at you...get your ass on the ground.

Take along lots of $$$. Them paint nuggets get expensive, especially when you are running a full/semi auto. Pumps are easier on paint, but don't give you as much covering firepower.
Pad up good. Reguardless of what some say, paintballs hurt like hell. Period. Its like getting shot with a giant BB-gun. Obiviously. Welts and redness are common unless you pad. (Don't go overboard. You gotta move freely)
Don't worry about the cost of paint. When you get out on the field for a round, forget how much ammo you got and concentrate on survival.
If you are in a position to shoot a team member from the other team, remember, he can shoot you too.
Staying low makes you harder to hit, but shots to your head is like getting hit with a junebug while driving down the road at 70MPH.
Leave the Rambo facepaint sh|t at home. Only newbies bring or wear it. True professionals play with a bright orange shirt, neon Hawaiian pants, and a cheazy gun. You see one of these guys, run like hell. Cause you will be lying on the ground sneaking up on someone, and this beer drinking bastard will put the muzzle of his gun in your ear before you can say "Aww schiet"

Before you go, play a quick match or two of Counterstrike and TRY NOT TO DIE...that will get you in the defensive mode that is required in a real simulation.

Remember, It's hard to hit a moving target with paintguns. Keep your barrel and paint clean, to ensure better accuracy(you're going to need it with rental equipment). Play agressively and keep good mobility.

Wear a cup. As for the padding, it depends on the gun. If its some $40 wal-mart kit, bring a cup and a mask. It will sting for an hour or two, but its not bad. Got hit in the neck once, looked like a hickie for a month. It's bearable. Never played with semi's so I can't say for sure on those. If your going for the first time though, and everyone has semi's and automatic's, God help your soul.

I'd beg to differ. My one paintballing experience thus far was dominated by three or four people who showed up in full waterproof camo, paint & CO2 on their backs, & with Angels. They kicked our asses.

i just paid the $10 entrance fee to play and seeing as how someone pointed out how expensive those paintballs are, apprx how much cash should i budget for the ammo?
and roughly how much to rent the semi-auto guns, goggles, helmet, and other equipment etc? i have no equipment whatsoever.
i will probably wear 3 sweatshirts to try and cushion the pain of the impact tho. is there something i can wear to help cushion my legs as well?

Just don't be afraid... As a paintball pro that's pretty much all I can say, because a lot of the beginners are afraid ( even if 15+) , sure the first couple of hits might stun you, but you will get used to it, and will a much bigger virtue to your team if your not a wuss.

2. Be the first in line to pick a gun. There are probably limited number of semi-auto guns. Let me tell you it's well worth the extra bucks.
3. Be a liar. Say "don't shoot, I am on you team" then unload a hell of ammo into the gullible opponent.
4. Wear nylon pants. Now there are god and bad to this. The bad is it hurts a bit more. The good is you will get a few shots that deflect from your pants without breaking.
5. Don't stop shooting UNLESS THEY SAY "I AM OUT". DON"T ASSUME THAT A GUY WALKING CASUALLY TOWARDS THE SIDE LINE
IS OUT. IF HE DIDN"T SAY "I am OUT" SHOOT HIS ASS.
6. Aim for the feet. It's the most unexpected spot. Although a shot right into the mask of someone is more glamorous and stimulating. A kill is a Kill.
7. Last and the most important advice: At the end of the day when you have to unload your unused ammo, BE THE LAST ONE TO FINISH EMPTYING THE AMMO. This is from experience. I kicked ass in my first paint game (I had a semi while most others had a pump gun). Well, my friends got pissed that I had way too many kills eventhough my aim was horrible. (I also used 4x as much paint balls than they did) A friend of mine, who had complained about not having a semi-auto, waited for me to finish emptying my ammo. Then, with his pump gun, fired a shot at point-blank range right at MY ASS!!! You have to remember, I was also wearing nylon pants at the time. There wasn't much padding from the underwear and the thin nylon fabric. WEll, I had an apple-size welt on my butt, and sitting in class was painful the next day. At the time, I had the urge to bash him in the head with my empty gun, but my cooler head prevailed. However, that taught me the most important lesson in paintball.

Also don't be afraid to run and shoot while being shot at, a lot of the paintballs don't burst and I doubt you will be playing against any marksmen. Like I mentioned above, DO NOT be afraid, that is the quickest way to lose respect from the rest of the team, also try to organize plans strategically in order to win in the most efficient way possible. Beware of the autocockers.. hehe
Doh, I have more advice . DO NOT just shoot at anything you see, a lot of the newbies do this and it is really expensive and retarded, it also gives away your position. If you are good at moving around you can be stealth a lot of the time. Shoot whenever you have a clear shot, like in The Patriot, "Aim small, Miss small".

If you get good at this, you can pop up shoot and be down before your enemy can shoot you even if he has a bead on your position. You don't have to wait for the ball to reach them. If you do, their ball can hit you.
The people in back should be the eyes and they should give the front guys coverfire.
Push up the tapeline(the right or left side of the field). You can only be shot at from one side if you go up the tape.
When you move up to another bunker, move your @$$ and get tucked in quickly.
