First off, I'm not a pro, hell, I'm not even an amataur photographer... I know squat...

But I'm a computer person, so, digital seems logical to me...

So, I've been looking at 3Mpix cameras, they would produce a decent enough picture, that If I decided to make a larger print, it wouldn't look pixalated...
But once you start adding up the parts, it gets really expensive quick... just as a beginner, I see this is what I need...

Camera ~$650 for Canon G1, or New Sony
Memory cards ~ with the larger pictures, one needs more memory...
about 128 - 256Megs
Battery Recharger
Extra Battery
UV lense, taking outdoor pics
Transfer device like a Memory card to PCMCIA or USB

So, Now I'm looking at over $1000 for digital equipment, when I could get an outstanding film camera for around $300...

I guess maybe I should wait a few more years for a decent, inexpensive digital camera...

Thoughts?

I would go digital. It's great and you can do so much with them. I've just purchased a Kodak DC4800, originally a $600 camera for around $300 at Staples...you can find more information on the hot deals forum. Good luck

A good 2.1 megapixel camera should be good enough for your needs. I got the Kodak DC4800 because I was able to get a good deal on it. I ended up paying $385 after rebates.

since ur not a pro id say just go with digi camera at least 2Mgpxl cuz my 1.3 mgpxl sucks so im sticking with my amateur photography camearas =)

although u can't do as much with digi effects wise....i don't think that matters for your purposes

Touchdown: I believe that deal expired about a month ago! If you have done it in the last couple days please share the link to the post in the hot deals forum or the story here :).

edit: I got a DC4800 too but after the Staples price match deal expired - got it from PhotoAlley.com for $376.

I breifly looked at 2Mpix cameras, and Olympus is coming with a new one the C-700 ultra zoom... It looks like a good one for around $450, and with smaller pictures comes less need for memory...

If you've got a scanner I would suggest a regular film camera---and there's no better way to learn than to get a completely manual camera---or on that gives you manual control.
