I leave for a royal caribbean cruise to the bahamas in the morning.

How thorough are the customs checks for alcoholic beverages in the suitcase?

not when i went. they didn't check. had me a nice ole bottle right on the ship for our sipping enjoyment.

do it. the worst they can do is confiscate it, and i did not hear of that happening.

Pretty thorough these days. I went back in 2001, flew back to VT on 9/11 actually, and even back then they checked almost everybody. I had a bottle of hot sauce I bought at one of the stops, they let that through, but people behind me had stuff confiscated.

was that at the airport or at customs to go on the cruise?

Bring a swimsuit, it's customary for passengers to jump off the side of the boat in the middle of the cruise. Don't worry, the boat will stop and pick you up.

That was right when we got off the boat, coming back to the US. They didn't check us on the way out, or at the islands, but on the way back we had to go through customs and they did check.

We had a passenger jump over the side in the St. Lawrence one night when I worked aboard my first ship. The captain was pissed, and had the guy escorted ashore the next morning to be flown home.

hmm what will get you, pirates or some shipborne infectious disease...

be sure to ask the captain to demonstrate the anti-pirate sonic gun.
