I leave for college in less than 2 weeks. I have no idea what to bring. I wasn't originally going to bring my desktop since summer session is only 6 weeks but I think I might as well bring it, especially since I have a TV Tuner for it. What else will I need?

Anyone know if I can get cable or DSL in the dorms? I don't want my internet activity monitored and limited.

If you've ever gone camping, it's not much different

or just think of what you use on a normal day and occasionally (like a nail clipper).

Don't bring anything! You'll hate moving it all back.

Bring a laundry hamper and something to hold your soap/shampoo in the shower that hooks onto the shower head. A water purifier (the pitcher kind) is nice too. You may also need a lock if your bathroom has lockers in it. Flip flops are a must, too. And a phone if you aren't going to use a cell all the time.

I don't think you can get your own cable or DSL, so it'll be monitered either way.

If you are just doing first session (UC?), then take bare necessities. Get flipflops for the shower for SURE, some headphones if you will have a roomate for SURE. Also bring your own food as outside of cafeteria hours you can't eat. Take the normal things like clothes, etc

But don't bring optional stuff. If you always have to have fifty pictures of your GF hung around your moniter at perfect angles so even when you are fragging opponents you get a clear view of her, just deal with not seeing those pictures for six weeks. I made the mistake the first time of taking too much crap and it pissed me off a LOT. Trust when when I say that the lighter the better. IF you have an awsome set of 5.1 speakers or something like that, don't bother bringing it and just use headphones. No need to bring a 50 pack of blank CDrs or whatever. Ever little bit counts.

Get 8-10 shirts and pairs of jeans, for about twenty total...don't bother taking your entire wardrobe. Though I reccomend taking LOTS of underwear, because its better to be safe than sorry, twenty peices if possible. That way even if you get lazy and don't attend classes and just nef on ATOT all day without doing laundry, you have a three week buffer to do so.

What I would bring:

-Computer at a minimum
-Hygenic stuff for the bathroom.
-about 20 combined shirts and pants (remember no need for the entire wardrobe!!), and plenty of underwear
-blank paper depending on the class (you don't need blank paper for some ICS class, but for math or writing you probably will)
-stuff to snack one since it won't be going back home (unless you don't snack at all)

thats all really...even if you are the guy that needs a lot of things, you'll quickly learn that you really don't need all that stuff...I'm planning to take summer session 1 as well, and I'm going to go pretty bare (ie: no need to bring my bookshelf and all my books...etc. etc.)

There's a scene in an older movie called Split Image, I think, where one character remarks to the other, "college is a great big f--- farm." So bring condoms and get ready to chase after the ladies!

right, why ruin a perfectly faster than cable/dsl connection just because you're being monitored? from reading your forum site, you're not really that big of a pedo. just use usenet to get everything you need for your whacking pleasure.

I got continuous 10mb up and 10mb down when I lived in the dorms. The hell with monitoring; you just don't see those kinds of speeds every day!
