I grew there and can tell you there is nothing like the city of Krakow....
The city center is amazing!!

As far as beer I prefer a Zywiec Porter. It puts Guiness to shame!!

just about any beer puts Guinness to shame.

That being said, I have not met a Polish beer that I like; though I have not encountered a Polish porter.

Do they do more Baltic style porters? Those are tasty.

Here is an example--it is Lithuanian, and it is one of my favorite beers out there.

Krakow is a gem of a City. I have visited on business many times over the years. It is a place I look forward to visiting. It still has some of it’s ancient walls and is the burial place in Wavel Castle of many of Poland’s National hero’s. It has a beautiful old central square dominated by the 14th century Sukiennice or cloth sellers hall. The Russians arrived faster than the Germans expected and saved the city from Hitler’s orders to destroy it. Krakow has one of the oldest universities in the world Jagiellonian University.
If you are drinking beer in Krakow you are drinking Okocim.

The one we get in the US(The 4% ABV version) is terrible. There is a different version that started shipping to the US late last year.. called Foreign extra stout, have you tried that? I liked it a lot. It comes in a 4 pack and had 7.5% ABV.

Yes. I am extremely familiar with foreign Extra stout. I was drinking tall bottles of this when living in Florence back in 2001/2002, rather steadily. (it's that or Moretti/Peroni. Tough choice)

It is an oatmeal stout, and nothing like their porter (crap hole beer) or their extra stout (which is decent).

I've heard here on AT and elsewhere that it is finally shipping to the US and has been available for some time now. While this makes me happy, I have not really looked for it as the available choices for local beer are simply too good for me to care about anything with a Guinness name.

Never been to Krakow, but I've spent a lot of time in Polski Cieszyn and Katowice.
