I currently have the BB 9700 before that I had the 3gs (which I dearly miss)

I really want to buy the Nexus One BUT the lack of 3g support on AT&T networks is kinda a bummer

What should I do? Should I wait for a 3g version of the phone or buy the nexus one now and wait for an update? The longer I wait the lower I can sell my BB 9700 for.

Thanks guys,

Do me a favor, browse the Nexus One support forums first, http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/android/label?lid=4a96f6d473819af3&hl=en&sort=popularity

Your 9700 is a bulletproof phone, the Nexus One is having some problems with it's first gen...

3G reception is mediocre at best (seems to be a hardware AND software issue) there are screen calibration issues, dust under the screen issues, poor support, it's being demonstrated to be a fragile device, AOLED screen washout in sunlight, lots of cracked screens (look on eBay to see them for sale), and I suspect, after watching the support forums, it has a pretty high return rate.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10448221-1.html Here's a new one, spontaneous screen cracking...

http://jkontherun.com/2010/02/06/google-nexus-one-3g-issues-still-lurking/ 3G problems persist

That being said, the ATT specific phone just got approved by the FCC, if you have to have one, wait a bit so you'll at least get ATT 3G data. A software update won't change the radio frequencies, it has to be another model that is specific to ATT to get ATT 3G.

Before I get labeled as a hater, I use a G1 with a custom ROM and have had good experiences with HTC devices in general, but I keep seeing problems crop up with the N1. I'm waiting for a 2nd gen device or waiting for them to make some significant changes in the current gen.

True

The 9700 does well:
Phone
Email

Does not do well:
Web
Google Voice
Must be rebooted every night
Random apps

Honestly its a great phone for older people as a college student I kinda would sacrifice the phone part for other stuff... kinda why I like the iPhone so much

Seriously...wha? You have a ton of 3rd party apps that are programmed terribly?

You shouldn't need to reboot the 9700 daily.

No I only have the Google apps + quickpull + Twitextreme = clusterf*ck

Meh its not a must do, but I rather do it then during the next day have it slow down

Also I really need IMAP

I have a couple of friends with Bold 9000 and they have to do a battery pull every day too, kinda just thought it was a BB thing... Don't get me wrong its a great phone but its just not for me

i'm on a mytouch with a custom rom at the moment. I've been looking at the N1 and the 9700 myself. If the bold had come out before the mytouch i would of easily gotten that. But the bold for tmobile with the 3g was pushed back over 7 months from launch date. I made the move from 2g iphone to mytouch.

Love mulitask. Google Voice and a decently loud speaker.

So your saying 9700 doesn't do google voice well at all?

There is a lag, with my phone that shouldn't be with the N1 with its 1ghz snapdragon compared to the BB and mytouch's 550mhz

I use Voice for txting it doesnt have the normal bb entry field so it doesnt spell check, also trying to text from contacts using GV doesnt work well all the time, not a very well made app IMHO

It's mind blowing that three apps are pissing away around 150Mb of RAM in one day. In fact, I don't believe it. Don't takle that personally, I just don't see it, unless the google apps are so epiclly crap.

i had a blackberry bold for work for a year, and now i have the n1 on my personal account.

n1 is definitely better if you are in a good T-mo area. I am in the NY metro area, so have not had any coverage issues.

for browsing the web it is night and day compared to a BB and the apps are handy if you are out and about

AT&T on my work blacberry for 1.5 years int he NY metro area and I travelled around the country for work (20+cities in that time) was the worst carrier i have had.

sorry to hear that :)

Honestly I love ATT, I here have great 3g better most verizon phones get
also verizon has some shitty as phones IMHO even my Gf thinks so

Also I am a big GSM fan

Im tired of this Verizon vs ATT shit

Iv been a cingular customer then ATT for about 6 years so I like them a lot (Clearly...)

btw I have traveled for photo shoots to NC, Calgary, San Diago, and England... havnt had a problem, and fairly cheap plans. Also liked having the ability to call ATT have them unlock my phone so i can swap out a SIM card while I was in India and dubai

i never had verizon. i had sprint for many years until recently. sprint's network to me crushed AT&T's. i dropped calls with AT&T all over the place. on three different blackberries. i could care less what technology it is as long as it works good and is fast an d reliable.

i agree verizon had terrible phone selections - and sprint has gone through lapses in phone selection, like right now.
