Going from S-PVA 1200p to 144Hz TN?

I have a Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP. I've been musing on and off about switching my system to a 120Hz or 144Hz 1080p panel. However, I do have a lot of qualms. I love the color on the Ultrasharp, I use a TN panel at work and every day I come home I am amazed at the difference. Also everything is pretty sharp, I actually like the anti-glare, and I like the 1200p format.

On the other hand, I do primarily play FPS, and so any extra advantage I do notice. Has anyone else made this transition? Is there a high quality 144 monitor where I would not notice the transition as much?

I would keep your existing monitor and ADD the 120/144hz screen alongside it so that you have a choice for your given task (not to mention overflow desktop space)

I went from a Dell 2410 to a Ben 2411XT (144hz). For gaming it makes quite a bit of a difference for me. The main thing I notice is the reduction in blur, its night and day. the colour reproduction is rubbish and just like the Dell 2410 its overly bright and the anti glare simply isn't as good. But the 120Hz combined with very low blur means its a pleasure to game with, noticeably smoother when you get the frame rate high.

But you have to understand I am an ex pro CS player, I see microstutter a lot more than the majority of people. How much you will benefit really depends on how much you see stuttering and such, single you have a 7950 I am guessing you probably don't see them as well as I do. A single 7950 is not going to get you to 120 fps very often without cutting a lot of detail, you need a lot more GPU performance to get to 120Hz with decent graphics settings.

Yeah, I realize I'm going to need a better card. Right now my main game is BF3 so the graphics isn't that demanding at 1200p, I'm thinking I could make it to 120 fps by cutting down detail (I hold 60 in BF3). If not, what would be a single card solution that could work?

For me, the main problem is that I play less and less games so I'm not sure the reduction in image quality is worth it. However, when I do play, it's usually fast FPS, I've been playing CS for years now so I do think I can benefit from a better setup. I notice that when I play at my parent's house (where my old computer is with a 1050p TN panel), I usually play noticeably better, even though it's an older system. I'm seriously beginning to think the ultrasharp is hampering me. OTOH, I don't do bad on my Ultrasharp, but I know I could do better.
