I switched out my GeForce 3 in my home PC to a Radeon 9000. It really messed things up. I need some advice. And yes, I am new to this so take it easy.

Please help

reinstall windows is what most people say to do. btw, why did you swap them out? there is not much of a differance between a 9000 and a geforce3, as a matter of fact, i think the geforce3 is faster

At the very least, go to add/remove programs and uninstall all nVidia related drivers and software.

Try driver Cleaner 1.5 from here ,read the readme file for instructions on how to use it,it does both Nvidia and ATI drivers.

Did you also install the drivers for your new card? Cause that would definitely be your troubles if you left your old drivers installed, or forgot to install new ones.

it really annoys me whenever for new drivers people say reinstall windows....that is unacceptable for such a simple operation...or should be....

Woah, do most people reformat just to update their ATI drivers? I just bought my first ATI card, and if that's the deal I'm kind of disappointed.

Oh, I have no problem with reformating for the initial card switch. I just did that anyways because I felt like cleaning things uo a bit. I was worried about just updating the ATI drivers to newer versions.

it's just fine to delete the registry and ati.dll files and then delete the leftover ati folder "after" you uninstall through control pannel.

As long as you're able to clean up the drivers and registry, a reformat/reinstall is not needed. Problems occur is when things are not cleared out correctly or completely.

I just put in a Hercules 9800 Pro last night. I had a Geforce 3 TI 200 in the box before. I uninstalled the drivers and then ran Driver Cleaner in safe mode. I installed the card, installed the latest Catalysts, and went on my way. I will have to reformat my new HD gets here. I plan to install XP on that and leave the other HD for data. That is a valid reason for a reformat/reinstall, but I digress. :)

My old computer I gave to my sister has nvidia and ati drivers in it. Had a ti-4400 inside and it got messed up. Has a memory artifact problem. I put in an 8500 64MB retail card.
But forgot to remove the nvidia drivers. She hasn't had any problems yet.
