Going from Lexus to BMW or MB. What to expect?

Lame or not, it's one of the reasons people buy one brand over another. "Too many people are getting Lexuses so I'm getting a BMW"... "Too many people have BMWs so I'm getting an Audi instead".

I said I would take a non-German car because they are too boring as there are too many... that's an extremely good reason and not at all "lame" if your goal is to "stand out", and face it, that's a lot of people's goals in human society.

The only German I would consider is a Porsche, actually. And yes, while I do like BMWs and Benzes, the fact that everyone owns one is a fairly large deterring factor.

Now if only Porsche made better looking cars.

Ok man...whatever floats your boat..but I still think lame to buy an automobile based on how it makes stand out or makes you different. I would want to buy a vehicle because of how it drives or the luxury features it provides or because it is beautiful. I wouldn't exclude it just because my neighbor has one.

I'll give you that I could see the styling growing old on me because I see them all the time...and thus becoming boring. But not just to stand out.

I made a thread while back about the top 3 reasons why people purchased their car and not a single one was exclusivity. If I remember right, the majority of the reasons were 1.price, 2.features, 3.reliability.

Correct, people buy Kias for those reasons.

I used to like BMWs the most, now I think the styling gap is so large between MB and BMW, I think I like the MB's more. The new E class are fantastic looking.

With BMW, you will find more responsiveness, and a firmer ride. If you are a driving enthusaist, they will be much more fun to drive. Generally regarded as the more performance oriented brand. Luxury isn't their priority, but the interiors are of very good quality and they usually don't disappoint...

With Mercedes, pretty much the same as your Lexus, just better quality. It probably is more firm than the Lexus, but not to the point of BMW. Unless you get the AMG, roaaaaarrr 😛 ..

If I was in your shoes, I'd go BMW. I'd rather have more performance, than more luxury.

I used to have a 99 GS300. It was a boat when it came to handling. I don't know about the 5 or E series but compared to the 3 series, it wouldn't hold a candle to it. On the other hand, if you really like a quiet and comfy car, nothing beats a Lexus. I remember driving one time talking to my friends in the back and my ex asked me if I looked at the face of the person driving the Corvette that I passed. I said no. Then she said look how fast you are going and then I realized I was going over 100MPH. I couldn't believe it. I didn't hear a thing.

It's lame to spend double the price of a camry on something that's pretty much the same, but made less efficiently.

Without considering image and status, there is no way $50-100k+ cars would have a noticeable market.

One thing is wanting a car because you want to stand out and another is buying car because price, features, reliability.
