Well, would it be worth it to upgrade to a 3570k from a 2310? I plan on overclocking it to around 4GHz.

Would it be worth it? My MBO is Asus P67 pro3 so could I OC on it? I have a custom cooler so I wouldn't be using the stock one.

sandy->ivey slight ipc increase, ~33% higher clock -> adjusting for status quo on the rest of the system ~ 20% overall performance increase.

What is 20% worth to you? (For some it is a nobrainer for others it is not. YMMV)

What are you using the system for? For some applications, an i7-3770k might be even better. For others, you might not get an improvement from any upgrade.

You should be able to hit 3.6GHz turbo with your chip. Sandy was allowed to go 400MHz over stock even on non-K chips.

Depends, the difference is from 15% up to 30% increased performance across the board.

Taking money out of the equation and just looking at performance increase, its worth it.

You can overclock your current processor +4 multipliers even though it is locked. So you can get it from a 2.9/3.2 chip to a 3.3/3.6 chip. A 3770k will hit 4.2 reliably and a good quantity can go 4.3-4.5 with a small minority getting 4.5-4.8. So realisitically, you will gain a 5%-ish gain in IPC plus 800 mhz with an average chip pushed hard.

I'd say its not worth it

turbo OC should give you 3.6GHz for 1t load and 3.4GHz for full load

something close to a stock 2500 with turbo enabled...

it would make more sense to upgrade to an i7 or something,

if you are using multi-threaded apps or games then a quad core upgrade would be very be beneficial.
