Going from Chrome ORB to FOP32-1, big difference?

I have a Chrome ORB on my 1.2Ghz T-bird... I'm getting about 57 degrees on full load. Obviously the C-ORB sucks.

I found a FOP32-1 online for only $30 (Canadian).

Is the FOP32-1 that much better than a C-ORB to justify spending another $30?

I want better cooling, but I don't want the noise of a FOP38 (I need quiet!!)

I may buy some Arctic Silver II along with it too... but I'm not sure yet.

Ozzman -- is the 10 degrees less a result of the fan alone, or the fan AND the Arctic Silver grease?

The fan is far superior on the FOP32-1. The standard YSTECH having specs of 27CFM and 35 or 36DBA. It does have a significant whining noise to it, but nothing compared to a black label delta with over 45DBA delivering 38CFM (the only diff between a fop32 and fop38). You will notice a very significant difference between the FOP32 and the CORB. The ASII will only help more, go ahead and pick some of that up too. It does justify the $$ if you overclock, however if you do not, the CORB is just fine. 57C is kinda spicey. I have a FOP32-1 on my Tbird 750@950 1.9v w/AS2, @ 40C/104F max load w/Prime 95. I do have a very cool case though (turning off the fans causes the temp to rise to 123F).

"Significant whining noise"? That scares me...

My CPU is sitting at 54 degrees right now. And that's completely idle. I don't really plan on overclocking, but I may try. I should probably just get the FOP32-1 anyway. Now I just have to decide on spending $13 for the Arctic Silver! Seems a little much for a squirt of grease. But I suppose if it'll make a difference (and protects the CPU more), it'd be worth it.

You'll probably see a 5C or less drop, due tos ocket-thermistor readings... but that does not mean that a large cpu core temp drop doesn't exist...
