Hello all. I bought the Aopen AX4C MAX when it first came out. Had to RMA it for voltage flucuations after upgrading from an Antec True 430 to a True 480 and determining it wasn't the power supply. The RMA'd board has a problem where after 20-30 minutes of use, the Gigabit LAN connection is lost, and I have to reboot. This is especially painful when trying to online game and you get cut off.
I saw on some other forums it was a desigen flaw, that the LAN chip was situated too close to the processor and would overheat. I have been gone for the past 5 months on a deployment to Japan. After coming back and setting everything up again, the board continues to lose the internet connection. So I went ahead and ordered the Abit IC7 MAX3 after reading many reviews over the past few months.
Here's my question: when upgrading to the new motherboard, can I swap everything over then do a repair install of XP so I don't have to go through the hassle of loading all the drivers (ie video, audio) and all my programs???? My current setup is (2) Western Digital 80JB drives with PATA to SATA converters hooked to the ICH5R on the mobo in a SATA RAID 0 configuration with a 32k stripe size. The drives are partitioned out with a dedicated 5 gigs to the OS. Will a repair install work, or do I have to start all over again??? Before I do anything, I will be sure to make an image of all my other partitions so I don't lose anything. Also, when setting up RAID on the MAX3, do I have to select a 32k stripe size because that's what I am using now??????
I am deathly afraid of losing everything, despite the fact that I will be making image backups. I'm just trying to do this upgrade as painlessly as possible. One of the many tasks I would have to do if I had to reinstall XP is to do all of those Audigy2 driver hacks because I'm using the drivers on An Audigy Gamer.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
