If you switch from AMD mobo and proc to Intel, do you have to do complete install of windows or can you jusy install over the copy you have?

Anything else you need to do?

Just trying to figure out what needs done because my next upgrade (even though it may be awhile) will probably be to Intel.

Most of the time any motherboard swap needs a fresh install of the OS you are currently running. But, I did read where people found a way around it. Up to you to google it though.

That's not necessarily the case. I've swapped out Intel chipset boards for other Intel chipset boards (different chipsets), and it didn't require an OS reinstall or any other special steps taken.

Windows itself, however, will likely ask you to input the activation code again because it sees a major hardware change.

But I do agree that, as someone else in another thread put it -- it can be a crapshoot.

You will want to uninstall any chipset drivers you have installed and possibly remove any hardware references in the device manager before you do the swap. Windows should then hopefully re-install the default drivers and should be able to pickup from there.

You can get around reinstalling, but I wouldn't recommend it. I would recommend a fresh install for the most trouble free environment.

yeah as long as you remove the chipset drivers completely it should work fine. I've done it a couple times on this install.
