well aside from the use of a completely different chipset, yes there are noticible differences. I wouldnt know first hand since i dont own one. BUt im willing to bet a pretty penny the Audigy will out perform thier SB Live counterparts.

I upgraded from the SB Live to the Audigy. I wouldn't have done the upgrade if the Audigy did not have a FireWire port on the card. Otherwise I wouldn't have upgraded. I am going to install my Audigy tomorrow once I get my motherboard install/problem fixed (-fingers crossed-).

I just upgraded TODAY from the SB Live X-Gamer to the Audigy, and the Audigy is quite nice. The sound recording quality is improved and the overall quality is a little but more crisp, especialy if your using a set of digital speakers. It probably really isent worth it but the CPU utilization is noticebly better also. Its good enough for me to keep it :)

I don't see how they can be noticeable to the naked ear...if your speakers perform nicely on one card, then what will a slight boost do for them?

There *IS* a noticable improvement going from a SBLive to an Audigy. The sounds are much more distinct, music has more depth, and sound separation in 3d games is more pronounced. The lower CPU usage is a nice plus as well.

I have an Audigy X-Gamer in my main rig and after using it for the last two months, I've decided I'm going to replace the SBLive value in my backup with an Audigy OEM as well.

Admittedly, I do have fairly decent PC speakers for both my rigs (ACS56 digital and Inspire 5.1 5300's).

How do you like the Inspire 5300's..? Do they sound decent for analog speakers..? Is it hooked up to the Audigy..? Thanks.

I went from the Live 5.1 to the Audigy -- even a smaller upgrade than going from a standard Live and I DID notice a difference.. I got a firewire port now and enhanced EAX to boot.. However, I have the DTT3500's so that probably plays a role in being able to hear that difference, though minute from the Live 5.1.. :)

Although the 5300's are not as powerful as the ACS56 on paper, they sound much better, very crisp. For the price, these are excellent speakers. Yes, I have the Audigy hooked up to them. Although I've never been particularly fond of Creative speakers, I do have to admit they've come a long way and I would recommend the 5300's to anyone looking for a fairly inexpensive 5.1 setup.
