Going from a local credit union to a national bank - good move?

I'm thinking about transferring all of my banking services from a local Armed Forces credit union to USAA. I already have a car loan through USAA, and have had nothing but GREAT service. Rates are great too.

I also like their online banking options - much more versatile than my current credit union's website. I really only bank at the local credit union because, well, it's local. Should I switch?

Covenience - national bank with lots of branches, huge ATM network and 24/7 phone customer service.

Better - local small credit union offers better personalized customer service and favorable rates.

USAA is a great company. I have it because my grandfather was a captain in the coast guard. Go for it. what branch were/are you in BTW?

My mother is still enlisted in the Air Force, father is retired.

Should you switch...Why are you considering switching?

A national bank's loan rates won't beat your credit union, and customer service will not be as personal. The only real perk that national banks offer is online banking and bill pay. If your credit union already offers that, what reason do you have to leave?

Banks are in it to make money, credit unions are in it for the benefit of the members. Which do you think is going to offer you a more positive banking experience?

My local credit union offers online banking with bill pay and I have direct deposit.

They're also a member of the CO-OP Network which gives me access to 25,000 ATM locations

Yes. I love the service I get through my credit union, and they are actually in multiple states now. I just hope they have branches in Oregon by the time I move. 🙂 I have a credit card through them with a point program where you spend your points on what you want, I can pay bills online, and I have direct deposit as well. 🙂

LOL. Well, I have the hair for it, they probably aren't used to hippies with AK-47's and other toys, though. 😛

i went from a Navy Federal to Citi and couldn't have been happier. i don't know about loans since i haven't had a use for them, but everything else is better with Citi: savings interest rate, bill pay, credit cards, online access, ATM access, branch access, rewards benefits, etc.
