Going from a GeForce2 Pro to a Radeon 8500 lowered my ping?

OK guys, you're going to think I'm smoking crack or something, but I swear I'm not! I had my system fully tweaked with an MSI GeForce2 Pro overclocked to 240/450, but I needed more power in RTCW. Well I just installed my Radeon 8500 and the game runs even better but what surprised me the most is that my pings went from 43 to around 33-36!! What the hell is that about?! I didn't do anything different to my system, and I didn't even touch my NIC (as far as updating drivers). This is just weird, but "good" weird. :)

P.S. I did a fresh install with the Radeon 8500 as I did with my GeForce 2 Pro.

just luck, probably hit a time with low congestion on the net, either that or you tweaked your connection settings really poorly one time.

Yah probably just luck, but maybe the Radeon 8500 doesn't hog the FSB as much? I think one of Sandra's output messages says that the device "may hog the PCI bus" or something like that. Just a guess, and probably not a good one :)

I've been playing RTCW since the first demo came out and have never had anything lower than a 43 ping. Now I get 33-36 ping all the time. I also never tweaked my connection. Just weird.

weird indeed, but your lower ping is in no way related to a new video card. I get the same ping on my old Pentium II 400 w/ VooDoo 2 as I do with my 1GHz w/ Kyro II, in CS.

My frame-rate however, now tahts a different story. ;)

So don't think getting the GF5 with 128MB of DDR will give you a ping of 10. :)

It would be nice if that did happen. It would aslo be nice if that card was out.
