Going for the bald look

I went for a number of years without cutting my hair and then went into a shop and had it cut to 1/8th inch. Nowadays, I cut it to 1/2 - 3/4 inch, and require frequent haircuts to look "sharp." I figure, "why not just cut it real short myself or shave entirely and save the trouble and expense of getting haircuts in a shop?" Very short hair or shaved heads is pretty "in" in the gym, and I'm a gym rat, too.

So, what do I need? Do I want a trimmer or haircutting kit? Or just some shaving cream and Good News? Any experienced guys out there? TIA.

Hair trimmer with no attachment. I haven't been to the barber in over a decade.

You want to get a trimmer that has an 1/8 inch attachment. That way you can trim your own hair whenever you want. Wahl is a good brand.

You could also use the trimmer without the guard if you are wanting to shave all your hair off.

What kind of hair trimmer and where do you get it? I've seen various stuff for sale. I don't just want to buy anything and find out that something else would have been better.

Recommendations, please! Thanks!!

Steaming hot shower, non-slip strips for the tub, good lather, a sharp blade, & a steady hand. Unless you have hair like a rug, you're going to find it grows every which way. Difficult the first time around.

Well if you are concerned about looking pretty in the gym just put on some make up

I have been cutting my own hair for about 4 years now. Just bought an 8 dollar buzzer and 4 attachments on eBay.

1 year, been shaving my own head. I use a crappy con-air trimmer with no attachment, about once a week. Just get any kind of trimmer, just watch how short it actually cuts without attachments. SOme trimmers have longer metal "combs" than others.

First and foremost, you gotta have the right shaped head...I keep my hair short but I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I look alright shaved

Are you happy enough with your con-air trimmer? Is it actually adequate for your purpose?

That's probably mostly in your head, man. I'm sure you look OK. Thinking so will make it so for something like that. That's my attitude.

nair + shampoo = profit. Just don't scratch your nuts while showering, unless you want to go bald 100%.

No...he's right...if you're doing this because the "gym guys" are doing this then you need some serious help...or at the very least a date.

Oh, Red Dawn misquoted me, snake that he is. I said it was pretty "in" in the gym, not "pretty in the gym". What are you going to do with a cat like him? I couldn't give a ___ what the guys in the gym think. I'm not looking for a shrink, just a DIY way to deal with the fact that hair keeps growing out my head. I'm a very self sufficient guy, and it doesn't really sit right with me that I have to visit a shop every so often to get my hair cut. It's not a big thing, I'm not really intent on it, frankly, it's just something I've been thinking about a bit lately and thought I'd post here for ideas on how I'd do it. If I don't know how to go about it right, how can I expect to do it right?

..I use a Braun electric then finish wit a Remington triple head..kind of like sanding with an orbit sander using the triple head..takes it down below the skin. Nothing like a cool breeze on a bald nogin..although sunburn is a problem..so a hat becomes necessary at times.

Muse,
if you want a really close shave, go razors or "head blade"

but the closest clippers (if you don't have a lot of time) are the Wahl Professional series with a "000000 blade" (that's actually what's it called)

I've had some bad luck with drug store bought clippers and i recommend this one as it's "barber shop" grade.
