going for Core i7 965 chip... but -

OK - I'm biting the bullet soon and going Core i7, but am waiting on the board until I can hopefully get some answers...

will the current x58 boards support Westmere (32nm Core i7 parts) when they come out? I've seen rumors of Lucid Hydra chipsets on the Intel x58 Smackover 2 board, but no talk on 32nm compatability...

I had this issue with my old 680i EVGA based board where some versions would support 45nm and some wouldn't - or even 1066 vs 1333Mhz memory CPU compatability speeds...

does anyone have data on whether or not the current x58 mobos will support 32nm?

Remember 680i was an nvidia chipset though. I would hope the X58's would work with 32nm. Right now nobody probably knows.

If I had to guess, I would say yes. I don't think the chipset itself would be the limiting factor though. More so the VRM on the board would be the determining factor

Short for voltage regulator module, a small module that installs on a motherboard to regulate the voltage fed to the microprocessor. Nearly all motherboards have either a built-in voltage regulator or a VRM, the only difference being that the VRM is replaceable.
