I just upgraded my system to the new EVGA 680i board with the INTEL dual core processor from my older ASUS/AMD PC. The hard drive had VISTA RC1 on it. I wanted to install my copy of WINDOWS XP and when I booted from the CD and started the WINDOWS Installation only 131GB of the 250GB hard drive shows up for formatting. I am also having a hard time installing good old fashion WINDOWS XP PRO. Any ideas on how I can wipe my hard drive clean and do a clean install of WINDOWS XP PRO?

well, you are gonna have that prob now
however, you can leave 130GB and install XP and use disk manager later (after SP2) to expand to full

there are some very strange iissues concerning conflicts between Vista file system and master boot records/partition tables and XP's.
supposedly, Vista was destined to have a totally new filesystem (WFS) but it was dropped due to time constraints. However, I'm guessing that some things are indeed different, but have not yet time to investigate, and I'm not talking about the BCD store

what I would do is use the downloaded HDD manuf utility from floppy to low level format the entire drive (slow mode), which writes all zero's to all file blocks.
Then, for some reason, PartitionMagic 8 seems to fix all format/partition probs with Vista/XP, so I would use it to format and partition drive, not XP install.

now, I know you are going to come back and argue with me, so thats my info for whatever you want to do with it.
