going away receptions at work suck

Going away receptions at work suck, especially if they are for you and the only reason you are leaving is because they aren't renewing your contract.

And more so if your boss makes a speech about how invaluable you are while in reality he's the one who pulled the plug on it. Like jeez, whatever, just let me leave in peace.

Well, you were a contractor, contractors are expensive. Good luck.

Intern. Got offered a full time position, then a week before it was finalized it was cut.

Free food and a chance to exchange business cards with the survivors. It could be worse. Call it a last-ditch chance to network 🙂

Going aways in the military were awesome. The person leaving was either going to a better base or getting out. Regardless, they almost always involved a keg.

Blah, don't remind me. Today is the intern's last day, and they want to take him to lunch. I don't agree with letting him go.

I have been to more going away parties than I can remember. For the last ten years, I have practiced my going away party speech during my morning commute.
