Why the heck are they removing old games? They're the site for old games.

Contract is up, or their license to sell them is expiring, etc, etc.

Edit: Regional pricing seems to be the culprit. The publishers (Nordic, Frictional games) want to set prices based on region, which is against GOG's policy.

GOG has high standards for those sorts of things, and if the publishers don't meet their standards, the games get dropped from the site. That simple.

Several on that list I hadn't bought yet cause I have a steam copy. If this due to publisher being a shmuck, glad I haven't.

A lot of good games getting pulled this time around, really unfortunate. Gothic 2, Painkiller and Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive are up there with some of my favorite games, and there's quite afew other solid releases on that list too.

That's a shame, but I admire GOG for upholding their standards.

I'd advise anyone to grab Spellforce Platinum while it's still available, although there is a specific retail version that is completely DRM free too.

Good to hear that GOG has gained enough leverage to uphold those standards.

Gothic II is a great title, btw. Played the shit out of that one, though never finished it :)

I'm not sure I agree with gog's position on regional pricing. I think it makes sense for wealthier regions to pay more and poorer regions to pay less.

That's little different than the essential market differentiation where games first sell at a higher price to wealthier players who want them quickly and later for less.

I highly recommend the original Red Faction, if anyone reading this haven't played it. If aging graphics isn't a problem (shouldn't really be, if you're looking at games at GoG.com) then you'll be in for a fun(ny) and atmospheric (cheesy at times, but in a fitting way) old school story-driven linear FPS (and there's definitely a certain extent of inspiration from the first Half-Life in it). It's only $2 and I would still recommend it if it was $10.

In modern times, wealthier regions simply pay an extra few hundred dollars for DLC and regular micro transactions.

The only 'regional pricing' that should be permitted is the conversion to local currency based on current exchange rates.

It doesn't work that way, though. EU and Australian pricing for example is much higher than US pricing, yet nobody would claim the US is the "poorer region".

For digital goods it's absolutely unfair to price per region, except in the case of local taxes on said goods.

Anyone else not liking the new site layout/color scheme? Everything is so grey and dull. I love GOG but I do not like these changes.

You mean like it's always been? :p

I don't mind the changes. Although change is a little strong, "polish" is more like it. One thing that miffs me is the removal of posting dates from reviews.

Some good games there. Red Faction is great and I really enjoyed the Gothic series. Penumbra and Amnesia are great as well.

I'm throwing in a good word for the Penumbra series. Made by the same devs who created Amnesia, but IMO Penumbra is an even better game. Much more atmospheric, unique and cerebral. In fact Penumbra: Overture and Penumbra: Black Plague are still among the greatest horror games I have ever played.

If anyone likes Quake style games, Painkiller black edition is a must have for that price.
