GOG Fall Insomnia Sale: Finding new ways to piss you off

They have a deal for a game with a set amount of copies it will sell. When those copies are sold a new game goes on sale and it keeps going on like that. Every once in awhile they will throw in a free game with limited quantities as well.

So basically they want you to watch their sale all the time and if you aren't really quick to jump on a deal you'll miss it. Way to totally negate a big digital plus of not having to worry about "stock" and just piss people off that weren't living on your site practically. Saw one free game pop up, it was gone before I could even get the cart to load up.

All I can say is, GOG, I love you guys but you really do seem to try and find new ways to piss your customers off.

To be fair they do have stock. They only have a certain number of licenses to sell. Hell, Steam has run out of keys before. This is really no different than Amazon's lightning deals. Outrage not found.

While yes there is a "stock" per say, but when you are artificially limiting it to just a hundred to a few hundred copies for the sake of it and not because that is all you have, it makes it pretty damn dumb. Also, with GOG games, since you receive no key, the license issue is probably not even valid in most cases, especially with true GOG games and not newer titles.

An odd thing to get pissed about. I see it the opposite - if I get in on a deal, then I'm happy. If I miss it, then I'm at square one - no harm no foul. It's like getting mad at that Walmart price error - why? I'm disappointed I didn't get in on it, but there's no reason to be mad.

I don't love the format; but then again I did snag Expeditions: Conquistador for $4.95 so I guess I can't complain.

I have well over 100 games on GOG, so if I miss something this time I can catch it the next time round.

I'm actually waiting for the Christmas sale as the deals are better then.

If not, like I said, my backlog is huge.

I was going to say it was a stupid business model, but you make a very good point.

I am not mad about it either, but I can see why this is frustrating. You say you are no worse off? Yes you are, you just lost time. Time is money.

What, the 5 seconds to see that the deal's already gone? Or the few minutes to try and checkout and it's already gone? I'll PayPal you the nickle.

I make a lot more than one nickle in few minutes. Give me two dollars. And if you want to paypal me that, i'll give you my account.

I just got HoMM 3. It took me many attempts to get through, but I finally did.

Been looking forward to enjoying this nugget for many years now. I played it a bit when Gametap was great, just before the transition to suckage, but only had a few days.

Now I can take my time and really get into it and see if it lives up to the hype.

I managed to snag a copy of Planescape: Torment earlier (always good to have a backup), but for the most part things are gone way too fast to get them.

I will surely miss most of the games that end up on sale but I already own 90% of the games I want on GoG.com so I'm not very concerned nor "pissed off" about it. In fact thanks to this thread I checked real fast and Miasmata was on sale so I managed to click on it as it only had like 12 copies left or so and go it for $2.99, always wanted to check that one out. But, really, overall I already got most of the games I want on that site.

While I can understand that they wanted to have a "flash sale", it still isn't good for people that don't have the time to keep hitting the site over & over looking for good deals.

They should have just selected 5 or so games, and have limit of 2-3 hours, then cycle to the next batch.
