AoW is $3, AoW II and AoW Shadow Magic are $5 each.

Which is the best one to get? All were similarly reviewed in the high 80's.

Thanks. Did you play Shadow Magic? Reviews said it used mostly the same graphics and music of AoW, just added things like a random map generator and 3 races.

So I'm a little surprised if II is better than SM.

But if that's the case, I'll have to consider II.

To be honest - I had a tough time getting into AoW 2. I tried several times without success.

I remember it being a tad dry.

shadow magic is the way to go; there are a lot of add ons done over at heavenlygames. Some folks prefer the game mechanics of the first game over shadow magic but shadow magic is basically age of wonders 2 with positive refinements.

I liked the games in its days but the last time I tried to play I decided it was a bit dated. Still hope trump studio comes out with something a bit more modern (I had hoped elemental would fill the gap here but it was a total kaput).

As far as I know, Shadow Magic is the one that the community still plays, mods, and patches.
