I go to a pretty competitive public school (#9 in the nation for public schools) but this is absolutely crazy. While she is the class president, and president of a few clubs and captain of girls track, all of the other candidates had high 3's if not 4-4.5 gpa's. What is harvard smoking?

I'd accept her. Academics isn't everything and being able to do all that shows good time management and leadership skills.

is that weighted or unweighted?

nevertheless that's pretty low for harvard, maybe her parents made a handsome donation.

I know for a fact that she is not rich and yes that GPA is weighted. I highly doubt she has connections at harvard.

goes to show your grades/gpa aren't everything (not that they're nothing, just other things count more)

Harvard hates my school. A few years back, some admitted people went there and transfered out within a year.

They told one of our valedictorian where to put it even though he was class president, etc etc

Don't the guidance counselors explain to students that admission to any college is not simply a matter of grades? And that lots of other factors enter into it?

Universities like well-rounded students. My sister had a 1520 on her SAT and was the valedictorian of her high school with like 4.4-4.5 GPA but she still got rejected to Stanford. Why? Because she had no extracurricular activities.

Recruiters know that academics isn't everything.

It's Harvard. They have their pick of the best of the best students.

In Washington anything over a 4.0 GPA is not possible... Max you can get in a class is 100%, nothing more.
