Hey everyone,

I'm working on my friend's computer and everytime we try to setup Outlook 2010 for his pop3 godaddy email address, the smtp server keeps rejecting the login when trying to send the test email. I've tried every port (25,3535,80) on godaddy's website. I called them but didn't have the account pin and the guy said it just might be an outlook problem. My friend is running Vista Business SP2, I was thinking about just clean installing 7 but didn't know if there was a quick remedy. His account works perfectly on his iphone with the same pop3 settings, just not on his pc. Did anyone ever run into this?

Just to clarify, did you go line by line through these instructions and setup a new profile with this info?

http://help.godaddy.com/article/6297#Walk%20Through?ci=53570

Also, you can get the Godaddy PIN by logging into the control panel and clicking My Account on the top-right, then click the PIN link right under your name (top-center of page) and scroll down to the bottom of the Account Security Info page...

Yeah I tried all those instructions. I even tried the tool and it says it can't connect to the SMTP server. No antivirus/security suite is installed either. I'm wondering if something is blocked in windows or a corrupted file. I'm going to clean install tomorrow if I can't think of anything to do.

Make sure you don't have any 3rd party firewall software blocking the connection. Also make sure Hosts file doesn't have any weird entries. Try power cycling your modem/router equipment, from an elevated command prompt do "ipconfig/flushdns" and if nothing else, try changing DNS to google (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4).

Keep us posted on any results. Good luck.

There's no 3rd party firewall apps. I'll try checking the hosts file tomorrow and try the ipconfig/flushdns. Thanks!

After all the going back and forth with Godaddy, something was wrong with the password on their servers, possibly never synced to the smtp server. I changed the password and everything is good.
