GoDaddy.com or NameCheap.com? Trying to register a domain name..

Both are exactly the ones I'd recommend, but I only have experience with GoDaddy (3 domain names with them) and they are great - easy & cheap.

For those of you who registered with GoDaddy.com, did you guys use the PRIVATE REGISTRATION so that your 411 won't be listed when somebody does a WHOIS search on you?

Example(this is a website registered with godaddy.com): Go to www.networksolutions.com and click on WhoIs. Then type in www.sol-designers.com in the search box.

You will see that nothing comes up. NO relevant information to say the least. His address doesn't show up, nor does his name. I want my domain name to look like this as well. I don't like giving out personal information.

So, in summation, did this guy use the PRIVATE REGISTRATION, or did he not? Is this a standard service? Soo confusing

please help out. =)

Hmm. interesting...

Don't most companies do this anyways? where you can customize it so it can appear to be fake? So i assume GoDaddy.com won't let you do this?

I don't believe I saw a PRIVATE registration feature when I signed up (nor did I see it for one of my transfers). This was about a year ago.

I just did a whois on my own domain name and it didn't have any private info. I don't remember requesting it to be private, but ok.

Actually, i did find your information...

Crap, it isn't working... Just go to www.x-registrar.com and type in your name as if you were registering that domain name.. the ****.com one.. and then click on "SEE INFORMATION" I'd post your 411 on here, but I figured you'd want some privacy.. 😉

EDIT
NO PROBLEMO.. 🙂

Hmm... wasn't in the big Whois that google came up with. Anyway that's my old address (moved 2 months ago). Now can you kindly unlink it ? 🙂

EDIT>>> Gracias. 😉

I heard if you faked your information, they can suspend your account.???

It's not a good idea to fake info but I am safe because
1) I doubt anyone has a legal trademark or copyright on RossWorx and
2) I used a valid e-mail address, if someone needs to contact me they can.

They sell that for an extra $9, but I don't really see the point. The whole purpose of having a central domain registration point is to provide a way to reliably contact people who own a domain (whether it be for law enforcement or business purposes). All private registrations do is cause distrust in the whois system and make it that much harder to find out who owns a domain.
