There exist many pieces of information in the universe. The universe is information. Information that persists, and multiplies itself will last the test of time. In the process of propagation, information can become distorted, it can change.
That's all anything is, is: information, and we are just another part of the universe. We wondrously have consciences, but our thoughts, and beliefs are also just information, which is the result of interations between other information (the mind, the body of a human), which is just the result of behavior of biological systems, organs, tissue, enzymes, eventually we find the genes. The genes are another information system, which may be looked at as units of reproduction which "act" in their own interestes rather than as in the Darwinian belief, where the genetic information always acts in the favor of the individual (see
here).
At an even finer grained inspection, a human is the molecules that make up his being. The molecules carry the state of his health, genetic information, thoughts, memories, etc. The molecules are the medium in which our information is stored. Molecules make up the physical world, they are at the present state, mankind's sense of reality. We tend to associate "reality" with the physical world, and we make a distinction between life and the inanimate world. But this system of physics and chemistry, as we've seen in the century since Einstein's lifetime, is merely one of the layers, and as we peel it back we glimpse a new world which we are only beginning to try to piece together (sub-atomic, particle physics, quantum physics). That world is that which electrons, protons, neutrons are made of. Protons, electrons, and neutrons after all, are just ideas that we invented to explain empirical data. And undoubtedly there are other worlds of information that slice across and into all the worlds we know and those we do not, information which may be life.
It's obvious that life is a process which manifests itself in the real world. Life itself is not unique in the universe, because there are other systems -- probably of unimaginable complexity, and on all scales, the micro, and the super-macro, and beyond, into infinity -- systems which much life life, are units of information which exist as the mathematics of other information.
This is the chaos that is the universe, and you waste your time asking this innane question. None of it is concrete, nothing is right or wrong. But yet everything is. None of us are anything individual or unique, it is only an illusion. Genes, molecules, atoms, electrons, protons, are all just information, as is religion (of which your "God" is a product of), your "God", manners, civilization, spoons, clubs, cities, planets, solar systems, galaxies, galaxy clusters, large scale structures, everything bigger that we haven't yet recognized, the universe.
