Been a long time fan of BF2...and I am finally done with the POS...

Yes I know many will say what took so long...here is my short list.

HIT boxes...
Having a ping of 40 doesn't matter...you can shoot someone point blank doesn't matter they won't go down...and if they are moving...well you can forget about hitting them.

Bugs...
It seems I crash more to the desktop now than when I first started playing the game. Doesn't matter what I am doing...just crashes.

Hacks
The supply drop hack is by far the most irriatting thing to have happen during a round.

I loved the concept but for the love of god when you shoot a rocket at a car and it doesn't blow up or it MAGICALLY goes through the window while you get run over...that just pisses me off and blows my mind at the same time.

So any recommendations?

Just started playing SWAT 4 (well, it's not really a FPS along those lines and yeah, it's a bit late), will leave feedback on how it is.

Believe it or not after I got tired of BF2 many months ago I decided to give Counter-Strike:Source of all things a try. Just waiting for TF2 or QW:ET to come out.

Max Payne 1 and 2.
Despite its not being as "realistic" as Battlefield 2, I found Countersrike to be lots of fun.
FarCry might be a bit old but its also tons of fun.
I thought FEAR was OK, but lots of folks would fight me on that.
Alien Vs Predator 2 still remains a classic, though you would have difficulty finding it today.

No One Lives Forever 2 is silly and tons of fun.
UT2004 is another "oldie but goodie". TONS of add-ons and expansions make it huge. Theres a load of different game modes and mutators out there that make it several completely different games.

Tactical 4 member team, you control the lead. You can tell them where to go, breach, clear rooms. Think Rainbow 6 Vegas, but WAY more tactical, less (to no) shooting. Most of the fun is going in with lethal weapons as you can only pass missions if you use force accordingly and make arrests. Not sure if there's a demo, but I absolutely loved it and the expansion. Also, if you played GRAW, it's similar minus the shooting and maps. However, there's no story, so all levels are stand alone which kinda stinks. Although this allows for a good collection of individual, unique missions as opposed to many 'forcefully' bound. As for Multiplayer, it's somewhat barren. VIP and the expansions bomb matches are the best.

Oh, and I'd stay away from Rainbow 6 Vegas if you don't like consolized stuff. It's definately too arcady, and would have been better if they didn't use the Rainbow name. I ran through it once, wasn't amazed, uninstalled it right after I finished it.

Other shooters, FEAR is ok... Only FPS games that kept my attention for a while were GRAW and SWAT 4 in the past year. The next year looks greener though...

I only play multiplayer FPSs casually. I get owned hard online, particularly when I attempt to play CS. Given FEAR: Combat a try? Pretty good for a free game.

I am hoping TF2 or ET:QW get me serious about honing my FPS skills - I seriously want to improve my ability to kick ass online.

I just finished Max Payne 2 and would highly recommend that, depending on what you're looking for. It's really short, but I enjoyed it a lot. You should also check out the first one.

Found this it may help revive some of those older games.

I haven't played Max Payne 2 for a while but may try a few of these mods out...

I haven't played SWAT 4 except for the demo. SWAT 3 was excellent, and I highly recommend it. Imp, you might want to go check it out, as the missions in that game actually do come together to form a story.

Aw, forgot about that. A few years back when I tried the Swat 3 demo, I loved it. Wanted to get it, but guess I forgot. Now, don't know if I can stand the old graphics...

Riddick is an outstanding game and definitely worth playing. Not sure about COD2.
