I'm trying to get in shape so I can run cross country this fall and have been running a mile a day (at least, ran 2 the last few days) and hit the gym for the first time ever yesterday (i've lifted in PE in junior high but that's it :p) and I noticed an immediate difference.. but my left arm (was always my weak arm) hurts when I stretch it out. In other words I mean I can't reach out my arm and keep it straight very long. I've gained more muscle than I've ever had in my left arm just from going to the gym yesterday but should it still hurt like this 36 hours later? I know it's just because the muscles are tight but is it because I'm just not used to it?

Sounds like you overworked your arm. Is it your bicep that is sore? I've overworked my bicep's before and it's taken a few days for it to stop hurting.

Hahaha, same with me. Went back to weight lifting for the first time in months on Wednesday, and my left arm (also my weaker one) has been killing me since the morning after (going on two days). I definitely should have taken it easier, and I will do it more progressively next time (BTW, it's my Triceps that are sore).

You probby overworked the muscle.. Better wait a while before you work it out again. I did that to my arms once in high school and I could barely lift a pen for 3 days in a row. I felt like I had two big penises hanging from my shoulders in place of my arms.

80 pound curling bar right? 40 lb's per arm sounds a little high for a first workout.

Stroke it with your weak arm for a month...it'll catch up to your strong arm.

That is normal the first tiime you work out, especially if you overdo it. The first time I worked out, I could hardly move for 3 days after.

When I first started working out, I couldn't fully extend either arm for a couple days. The pain was in my biceps. I looked like an idiot with both my arms bent when I was walking around.

edit: Once the pain went away, I never had the problem again unless I went too long without going to the gym.
