I just had to post this. I remember when I was a kid I use to go to the local game store (EB Games) and look at all the computer games on the shelf, they had the huge box, the art was beautiful, there was information and screenshots all over it. It use to fascinate me so much I would stand there for an hour by my self waiting till my parents would come and get me. And I would go home dreaming about the game I just saw, now I didn't have much money, and my dad gave me enough to probably get a game every 6 months, but man it was awesome.

Fast track to now and GoG.com has all the game that I use to admire, except now I finally get to play them! I mean I am getting to play the games that I dreamed of playing when I was a little kid, and even some games that I use to play but no longer own.

I finally got to play Zeus, Caesar and Pharaoh! Finally got to play Stronghold, I now own Fallout 1 and 2. I just played The Settlers IV, and started reminiscing on Theme Hospital! Games are cheap, and all DRM free. I know everyone knows about it, and I've known about GOG for many years, but I finally jumped ship and decided to purchase some games, and I can say without a doubt I think I am going to be purchasing a lot of older games. Especially now that I have an old laptop with integrated graphics, I can throw all the old games on there and play them no problem. I cant wait!

Does anyone have any CLASSIC games that I should definitely play? I mean I know of quite a few but maybe some of you might have a hidden gem or two up your sleeve, feel free to post em here!

I'm a big fan of GoG as well. Some of my favorites on there in no particular order:

Outcast
Descent 1 and 2 (played through Dxx Rebirth)
System Shock 2
Magic Carpet
Alpha Centauri
Startopia
Dungeon Keeper 2
-- insert any of the Infinity engine games here --

All the usual Black Isle/Bioware RPGs:

Baldurs Gate
Baldurs Gate II
Icewind Dale
Icewind Dale II
Neverwinter Nights
Planescape: Torment

Note: I've not played all of these, but they're on my radar and they're popular games at GOG.

Nice to see you are enjoying it.

One old game not on gog - but free - I think holds up is the original Rogue, an ascii-graphics game with among the best replayability ever.

On gog, some games to consider:

Galactic Civilizations
Avadon
Thief series
Legend of Grimrock (not old, but great and old-style)
Heroes of Might and Magic 2 and 3
Total Annihilation
Arcanum
Arx Fatalis
Divine Divinity
Zork Series

Apparently you can do LAN :

Looks like Multiplayer is still possible :

You can probably find out a lot more info on this in the TA Forum section on GOG here (currently ~17pages) :

Back on topic to the OP.

I currently have over 140 games on GOG, many of them multipacks.
By no means have I played them all, or really even made a dent in them, but here are some good ones I've encountered :

Black Isle games have already been mentioned above.
Bard's Tale
Capitalism Plus (Economics type game)
Far Cry
Legend of Grimrock (not really old, but good)
Machinarium (newer but good)
Master of Orion games (yes, even MOO3 patched up is good)
Myst
Patrician (Economics/Trade type game)
Realms of Arkania (Hard Core D&D type)
Settlers games (Builder/RTS Battle)
SpaceChem (newer Puzzler/Simulation/Strategy)
StarFlight
Tex Murphy series (Detective/Private Eye type games)
Tropico 3 (Builder type game)
Zork games

Wow, looking at this I need to get busy, my backlog is bigger than I thought - problem is, I've got ~300 various Indie Bundle type games as well to get through.

I believe TA will play at 1080p without mods. Maybe higher I don't know. Not bad for a game that came out when 800x600 was high res.

I was looking at the new planetary annihilation on steam, but it didn't look like you had many defensive structures available. I loved when playing TA to play massive turtle creep. Especially when it was against someone trying a rush strat, cause if you beat the initial unit spam they'd be force to then fully develop an economy.

I love GOG as well. I prefer to buy games from them over any other source. I will continue to support them as long as they stay on their current path. I'm a huge fan of their DRM-free philosophy. I just hope they don't stray from it (like Humble Bundle did).

I agree with this and I'll add my name to any lists of people encouraging you to play:

Fallout series (you said you owned them, but didn't say you'd played them)
Thief series (particularly the original game)
System Shock 2
