God.. I just called earthlink tech support for cable modem and guess how long I had to wait

a 180 minutes before i could get someone on the line. My line went down for 5 minutes or so in between I rebooted everything and tried it again.. and it came up.. so all is good.. glad I didnt have to wait 180 minutes to just to talk to some idiot on the otherside who would tell me he doesnt know why its happening.

Mac Technical Support - 10 Minutes 27 Seconds


Customer Service Support - 11 Minutes 05 Seconds


I'm guessing you heard the 180 minutes and hung up. $5 says it was a glitch in the phone system. The average abandon rate (how long it takes for the morons sitting on hold to hang up) is usually at 45 minutes if there's a long hold (this is just a generalization).

Actually, I was looking at a different page, but it has the same numbers. -Shrug- Either way, a 3 hour hold would be pretty much unheard of, from my experience in call centers (and I've worked in one that does support for Earthlink, but I don't know what they support).
