I went to the Y the other day and was with my daughter to go swimming. I used a flotation device (the long tubed kind) for my daughter so that she can practice swimming because she just turned two this month. After 20 minutes or so, this little black girl (10 years old or so) asks the life guard (who was white) for the tube flotation device. She wanted it so that her younger sister could play with it. The lifeguard tells her no, they are only to be used to teach people to swim. They aren't for playing with. She looks at him and then looks at her younger sister and tells her loudly its because we're black that hes not giving it to us.

I couldn't believe that little girl was playing the race card. People just stared at the lifeguard and I felt bad for him. Because of it I turned the tubed flotation device in and just used the yellow square kind only.

On top of this, after we were done, I was waiting for my wife to finish in the main lobby. I got some change to get a snack for my daughter and the same girl asks me for change...sigh... what are parents teaching their kids these days???

You realize you encouraged the girl when you handed in the flotation device. You showed her that the race card works so she asked you for money. Hopefully you at least had the sense not to give her any money?

People take the shortest paths to success... law of nature... (who heard Dr. House explain this one?)

...so if people get things as handouts, they will continue to try and do so...

Pretty much. You can always count on people doing the selfish thing.
