funny b/c the reason is if you grab them and injury them some pathetic lawyer will sue you and you will lose. He is stealing from you and if he is injured, your fault!

You obviously missed the shoplifting video thread. When I used to work retail we had people try to steal, most would just drop and run when you called them on it, the one kid that held onto it got as far as the sidewalk before myself and another guy tackled him. Company policy was "officially" to not try and stop people physically for your safety and crap, but our DM was plenty happy with us for it.

life is too short to hate your job. do something about it.

life is too short to be going to school all the time to learn new things so you can get a new job.

Not if you enjoy what you are learning.

So assuming that everyone would be on your side if you DID run a guy down...

What's the problem? Just do it. Unless you've got an exec on your back no one will care.

Why not just put a guy at the door to check people's receipts as they leave?
fry's does that and it is legally your option to say no thanks and keep walking which is what i do.

yup, i usually walk right past them, if they try to stop me i tell them they better have a great reason to suspect me. they usually dont argue. of course, i dont steal from stores (or from anyone) so i really dont have to worry about it either way. just do it on principle. one guy actually justified it by saying they were double checking their cashiers by looking at our receipts and bag contents. i told him if i were to steal something, it wouldnt be in the bag he was checking. crooks are really a lot smarter than that (usually).

I did get to talk to my manager, he said that if they came back in I had permission to clock out, take off my shirt and tackle the guys until the cops came. (the shirt has to come off because it has the company name). He also added I should tell out "CITIZENS ARREST" while doing all of this.

This is the funniest thing I have read today. Your boss gave you "permission" to put your safety at risk on your own time to save the store money? How nice of him. Just wait until you get sued by the person you tackled, and the store puts out a public statement wondering why you decided to assault people on your own time, and then fires you.

At first I thought he was just being sarcastic until he didn't laugh. I know all the risks of doing that but you know every time you see someone run past you and you here the "beep beep beep" you just get more pissed till you snap.

The only thing I am legally able to do is create barriers, so now instead of tackling them I casually move the carts in front of the door to make them run to the back of the store giving more time to get their car tags.
